Does anybody know the difference between the Alternators and the Binaltech? I know Binaltech is from Takara and Alternators from Hasbro is there anyother difference besides the packaging.

Binaltechs have die-cast metal car panels, and in some cases have different paint jobs than the all plastic Alternators.

Also, a good deal (but not all) of the Binatechs have the steering wheel on the right side of the car, all the Alternators, except for an early version on Silverstreak have the steering wheels on the left.

KP Optimus and Rodimus don't count KP is not Binaltech. Rijie was an eHobby exclusive made of clear plastic.

I was under the impression that BT-17 Skids and BTA-03 Broadblast were the last BTs to have any diecast parts. All of the figures after that (Kissplay and exclusives) were all plastic like their alternator counter parts.

Black Convoy was officially part of the BT line even though it was an exclusive, but it had no die cast if memory serves.

What he said, plus Alternators have some characters that BT does not have like Ricochet and Rollbar and Decepticharge and Non-Clear Mirage.

naw, the convention exclusive from Japan? that sucker's almost all metal. I fawn after one, but only to replace my alt. trailbreaker custom with a metal one so I'll never be able to justify the now $400 pricetag.

I have black convy and he has Die-cast for sure. Plus KP is not BT. if it were they would have been numbered and Black Convoy would not have been BT-17 since Skids was 16. he would have been BT 20 if KP rodiums,Prime and autorooper were part of BT.

As already mentioned, the primary differences are metal (Binaltech) vs plastic (Alternators), and the list of available figures. In addition to this, the coloring differed between the BT and ALT releases for some characters (Skids and Sunstreaker, for example.) In some cases, small details like reflective side mirrors were left out on the ALT versions. In other cases, like with ALT Windcharger vs BT Overdrive, the differences are a bit more noticeable: BT Overdrive had painted red metal that didn't really match the red plastic also used on the figure (unlike ALT Windcharger, which was all plastic); ALT Windcharger also lacked the barrel of his gun, while BT Overdrive did not. Price is also a factor; expect to pay much more for a BT release compared to an ALT release.

I had most of the BTs but I ended up selling them long ago and getting Alts instead. I didn't like the paint chipping at the door joints on the BTs. I don't have that problem with the alts. BTs look better in car mode because of the paint but in bot mode I do not notice near as much. also for some figures the Alts are easier to pose.

I go cry in corner now :p

Nah it's cool I had forgotten that BC was diecast, it almost makes the elevated price worth it. The one thing I did know and was never confused about was that BT and KP were totally seperate, THANK GOD!!! The last thing I need to be accused of is collecting kiddie porn toys.

I got some kind of frankenstien Alternator then. My Overdrive came in a windcharger box with die cast construction, no convertible top and no long barrel. And I got it from Toys R us, brand new in the box. I never even knew what I had until now. What do you guys make of that?

edit: sorry about the necro post. I will be more carefull in the future.

An auctioned just ended and BT-17 sold for $700.

Transformers Wonderfest Nemesis Convoy BT-17 Binaltech - eBay (item 170363632433 end time Jul-27-09 03:01:30 PDT)

Prior to this, I saw one go for $820 back in March or April.

I personally love the Binaltechs over the Alternators. I think they look so much better.
