I humbly submit my very first original custom: BINALTECH Nightbeat!
I've been a Radicons wannabe for years, and finally decided to try my hand.

Modifying lame BT Blue Prowl into everyone's favorite conspiracy theorist is not a new idea, but since he's one of my favorite characters, it was important to me to do him right. Nightbeat probably has more alternate designs and decos than almost any other 'former, so I chose this pic as a general reference:

    [ATT] 8799 [/ATT]

Note 1: No pics of vehicle mode, since it's essentially unchanged at this point.
Note 2: Nightbeat MIGHT get the Reprolabels upgrade, but I'm not sure (aside from the license plate) if the white and red flames would work for him or against him, here. Suggestions?

    [ATT] 8800 [/ATT]

The arms, legs, head and joints are all dyed gold, and the hands and antennae are dyed black. It's tough to tell from my photography, but the dye actually turned the face a different, ruddier shade of gold than the rest of the head, which was a happy accident. The only actual paint on the figure is on the helmet, visor, and forearms. I matched the blue flake from the car mode, to give more of a "transformed pieces" impression.

    [ATT] 8801 [/ATT]

    [ATT] 8802 [/ATT]

    [ATT] 8803 [/ATT]

    [ATT] 8804 [/ATT]

    [ATT] 8805 [/ATT]
In this scene, Streetwise is explaining to Nightbeat that, yes, OF COURSE the Decepticons are actually from another planet.

    [ATT] 8806 [/ATT]
The obligatory "bathroom mirror" shot. ;-)

    Thanks for looking!

Thanks- The head took about half the total time I spent!

It's Prowl's head, dyed, with the crests removed, extra plastic added on and painted.

Thanks... The alt mode's largely unchanged... where'd you get that body kit for yours? I might look into it.
I used bona fide Binaltech Prowl, though, so the metal, while shiny, inhibits the amount of bodywork I can do.

You can always ask Delta to do you up a custom colour job.

Its really a nice looking piece. I'm on the fence about adding the decals. IMO it looks nice just as it is. :thumb

Great job on the head. He needs flames, though.

Thanks! Coming from you, the praise means a lot!

Rit "Golden Yellow..." It was a whim, but turns out, on plastic, it goes very, very metallic. The grey ankle and elbow pieces went bronze, the white upper arms and head went metallic gold, the face went ruddy gold flake (the silver shines through), and the light grey legs went a gorgeous shade of gold. I would have settled for yellow, and as I said, I had a lot of happy accidents on the dye. Good thing, this being my first custom... asside from what was entailed by gluing on those $^&*ing antennae, most of my "I didn't know that would happen!" moments on this were good ones.

In the end, I'm glad it turned out gold. I think bright yellow might have been more geewun, but he fits in better with the BT/Alts a bit darker.

Yeah, I'm still deciding on the decals... the consensus seems to be "OMG wher are hiz FLAMEZ??"

It's an Acura RSX 1/24 scale model kit with two diffrent tunner body part sets, (Sold in Michaels) the running board pannels are slightly small as are the front and rear bumper, but a lot of plumbers puddy and sanding evens out the gaps....

Mind doing a favor for a lazy guy and taking a picture of the dye bottle/box?
I might just finally finish my Nightbeat if I can dye instead of paint the bot parts. Awesome work by the way. The head's quite impressive.

    Thanks!

It bugged me that we didn't get a lot of cool characters, and the official fiction explained away the "hero color" variants kinda lazily, IMO:

"Tracks now has the ability to change color!"
"Meister built an autistic little brother out of his own spare parts!"

So yeah, I'm hooked at least enough to make all the characters I want, and to turn variants into legitimate characters. By then, though, I'll probably be an addict.

I doubt, though, that I'll be tackling a complete set of fully transformable, screen-accurate Masterpiece Conehead Seekers with custom-molded wings anytime soon, though...

    Here's the dye box:

Flattering: my very first job, and someone wants to copy my method. I don't know what to say.

Firstly, AWESOME work, Radicon! Everything came out superb! I really enjoy how the dying job came out, and to have happy accidents is always a pleasant surprise (as opposed to "unhappy" accidents :lol ). What did you use for the visor?

As for customizing Alts and getting locked in doing more customs, this is a new concept for me. Whatever do you speak of? :lol

In regard to some of the different paint decos we got of the same characters, I've always called the red RX-8 "ZOOM" (sorry, but "ZOOM-ZOOM" just sounds silly to me, but I wanted to retain the essence of the name already suggested). My yellow Tracks, however, is a completely different character than anything suggested:

Other variants I've created new things for, but I think I've done enough hijacking of your thread, :lol

I look forward to seeing more Alt/BT customs from you! Keep em coming! :thumb

Thanks for the link. I went looking for this stuff after work this morning. No luck so far though.

But yeah, I'm not big fan of painting moving parts, and I wasn't sure of how the dying would work since it's kinda a one shot deal.

So, by showing that it can be done, you've certainly earned the thumbs up.

RIT dye is found at target, kmart, walmart, hobby lobby just to name a few common places. some have them with fabrics, others near air fresheners and house-hold cleaners and the like.
