I remember when shows like this and Popular Mechanics for Kids were on and were actually popular.

Now, edutainment is all but dead and kids are killing braincells with Reality TV's latest antics.

    *grumble*

Damn, how things change in 10 years.

    [/old guy rant]

I show him to my class sometimes, I need to get the whole series on DVD.

I loved Bill Nye, but some reason I HATED Beakman's World.

But I'm also old enough to remember 3-2-1 Contact and Mr. Wizard and both of those will always hold a special place in my heart for making me love science. I always want to break out into the theme sone for 3-2-1 Contact, but my students have no idea what I'm talking about.

I got to see a keynoteish speech by Bill Nye and it was pretty darned good.

Included was video of his electric meter going backwards just about as fast as mine goes forwards.

Magic School Bus and Bill Nye: great way to get a bunch of ADD elementary kids to pay attention to science! Health class, biology, earth science, etc., all of them played Bill Nye at some point. I miss those shows...

I remember he was on Back to the Future TAS back in the day. He would do the scientific stuff while Christopher Lloyd narrated what was going on. Science is fun.

    B. Nye lectured one of my Dynamics classes in college. He did not seem to know what he was talking about, but it was okay because he put on a good show, followed by photographs and autographs.

Really? Maybe he was just unprepared or did a poor lecture, because he's got an extremely impressive resume.

Or maybe he's just not that good at teaching the basics anymore, due to specialization.
