They probably meant half way across the observable universe - but it's still an inaccurate statement because half way across the observable universe would be 26 billion light years.

So it's roughly 16.3% of the way across the universe.

Why haven't i seen a fat kid with a camcorder running past me screaming, "this is like a 100 times cooler than Armageddeon!"????

    It may be just me...
a 5'5" tall person trying to relate to something billions of light years away that was immense in size to begin with....i am amazed at it, but gawd, i feel like a dust bunny overlooked at the trash heap now, lol.
astronomy is for smart Emo's, right?

Hahahaha oh my, no. I don't know any astronomers personally but all the ones I'm familiar with are far from emo. Typically how it goes is, "Here is the universe, it's gigantic, it's bizarre, it's completely unfriendly towards almost any sort of life, it's so damn cool that we are here and we are smart enough to begin to grasp this."

The big bang was tiny, hell the universe was only the size of a singularity when it started. And from my understanding of the big bang theory, there was no actual explosion, just a rapid expansion. This was a star that exploded after it ran out of fuel for nuclear fusion and gravity started to collapse it.

guess i was looking at it through my "insignificant, depressed by it" eyes, lol.

I do wonder sometimes, if Dille was watching Carl Sagan or something on PBS about Black Holes and when it was mentioned that not even light could escape one, he had an epiphany and said, "UNICRON...."
