Sony's raising the price of the PS3 to $700, and there will only be 20 consoles available for North America in 2006.

    Just a guess.

Nope. My guess is on the GBA2, Nintendo's next console in their "three tier" design. Supposedly, and rumoredly Nintendo has the Wii coming out, the DS is an established console (NOW), but the Game Boy Advance is in need of an updated model.

Typically, most consoles last maybe five years, and if you take that into consideration the GBA is destined for an upgrade/replacement.

Now, if it isn't the GBA2, then I'd put my money on Microsoft's "handheld" system they are coming out with.

    Probably...

Likely it'll be the Virtual Console game pricing.

Either Wii official price, or a Sony/Microsoft price drop.

~Sony reveals that the PS3 will run on the souls of children.

    OR

~Nintendo reveals their new portal system: Virtual Boy 2!

    OR

~Microsoft reveals that the X-Box 360 runs on the souls of Mac users.

My vote is on GBA2 or WII price or PS3 price drop.

Wii's "official" price will be around $250 for a base system. I haven't heard of tiered packages like the PS3 or XBox 360, but I wouldn't be surprised. It makes sense, and I can see the base Wii having one controller and no options. Second level would have two controllers and a larger hard drive, while the third level having two controllers, same hard drive as the second level and pre-loaded games.

Nintendo has a history of having prices that undercut their competitors. The Gamecube came out less then PS2 or XBox, yet it didn't make it. I hope the Wii doesn't share the same fate.

I still think, in the back of my head, we'll see by the end of next year a GBA2. I suspect, as well received as it has been, that it'll feature a single touch screen. I doubt it'll have an optical drive, like the PSP, but a "proprietary" flash card format with storage sizes around 256MB to 512MB. It'll have better graphics then the DS, on a smaller screen (three inches), and overall stronger battery life (15 to 20 hours). It will pretty much be a "downsized" Nintendo DS and be smaller then the DS Lite's lower portion.

    Those are my predictions.

Not much of a difference between the GameCube and the Wii in terms of graphics. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo came out and said "This isn't our next-gen system, it's our middle system, our next-gen is still called "Revolution" and will be available Christmas 2007."

You know that those Wii specs were faked, right? It isn't actually that weak.

There wouldn't be enough development time for another full-fledged console, by Christmas, plus it goes against Nintendo's now infamous three-tier establishment. They have the Wii (I HATE that name, I prefer Revolution, or even Starbox), DS and GBA.

I DOUBT (as much as I want it to be) that the news will be for a new console like the GBA2 (which I think we'll "hear" of by end-of-year 2007) but likely pricing for Wii (console, official accessories, Virtual Console games), or a XBox 360 price drop.

Nintendo has not officially priced the Wii. Word one was they were considering several packages, the most pricey of which would be $250, implying a base system would be well under that price.

That would be the "Don't bother buying the Wii" announcement. Not gonna happen.

I may "bother" with the Wii, but I'm going to wait a few months after launch to see how it does. The control for it sounds awesome, but for some games it almost sounds impractical. Unless I have a DDR type pad plugged in, I don't want to move all around.

Now, for the Wii, it's control scheme will ROCK for FPS games and I can't wait for certain games (Red Steel, MP3, Wabbid Rabbits, Super Mario Galaxy) and I hope the news is Wii (I SO hate that name) related.

If that is the case, then it will either be the GBA2 (or Nintendo sponsored system) OR Microsoft's upcoming first-party handheld system.

I dunno. I suppose it could be, but I think gaming news doesn't usually refer to hand-held systems a "one of the next-generation consoles". It's almost got to be something about Wii or PS3.
