So I decided to open a MP sunstorm I bought a while back... and like clockwork something was horribly wrong.

One of the tail fins was totally snapped in half and the other was bent.

I used gel super glue on the snapped one with moderate success, and I was able to mostly unbend the other.

My question though... was that the best way to approach the problem? Or is there a better way to fix the tail fin that is a bit more permanent?

If it was totally snapped, gluing made the most sense.
I would never use gel glue, though. I prefer either Loctite pro strength liquid or Plastic Surgery liquid. Both can be found at hardware stores, but Loctite is more common and found most everywhere that sells good glues.
