    HI!
So I am a huge Ultra Magnus fan. Easily one of my favorite tfs. Unfortunately I don't have a single Magnus toy. :(
I'm currently interested in a G1 magnus, although I'm not so sure what is the best choice. I'm on a budget so city commander is FAR out of my budget. R there any specific toys for big UM that would you guys would recommend?

    Thanks in advance! :D

in my opinion, G1 magnus leaves alot to be desired. City commander is essentially a perfect representation of him (although very expensive).

My list would probably be something like:
    1) City Commander
    2) titanium
    3) G1
    4) RID
    5) Animated

*I didn't list masterpiece magnus as I don't really feel a white prime is magnus- he's gotta have the armor

Hunt for the Titanium one. Most G1 you'll probably get without actually being G1.

I would probably recommend not going KO city commander and a KO magnus. Usually you can make due with one being a KO but having both as KOs will result in a floppy mess and won't do CC justice at all

To me there is no good toy representation of G1 Ultra Magnus. hopefully that will change within the next year. I do like RID and Animated, but neither go good with the Classics toys in my opinion.

    id say go KO.
iv have a KO mangus and KO DIA Commander and both are excellent. the paint apps on Mangus are a little ehh, but he's gonna be in the armor so who cares. all you'll have to do is the normal mods for the KO commanders to make the arms and shoulders not so wobbly.

Seconded. While visibly not as nice as "the real thing," if a legit magnus and armor simply isn't in your budget, the KOs really are an excellent alternative. They require a little love and I agree the blue paint apps on the cab aren't well-executed, but they're affordable and it beats a blank by a mile.

Well, I take that back- the KO Armor is affordable. I'm pretty sure the KO Magnus has been sold out for a while so that may take some digging, but is still sure to be far cheaper than the two-pack version.

except for "Battle in a Box" Ultra Magnus, only white Magnus anyone should accept since it was released by Hasbro specifically because people responded positively to the end of "War & Peace"

also Energon Ultra Magnus should place on that list, sure he has no elbows, but he's Hella-sexy.

G1 Magnus all the way for me. Not very poseable, but easily the best for me. Wish I owned an animated Magnus, but we only got the lame Roadbuster coloured one in the UK. Hate the CC mold. Tiny torso with massive arms and legs looks like ass to me. Also doesn't transform into anything apart from a block with wheels. Not a fan of the FP face sculpts either.

Agreed. And not just because it's the only U.M. I have. I always like playing around with him from time to time, great fig.

    1. G1
    2. RiD
    3. Animated

Titanium doesn't look bad, either, but I've never seen one in person.

Unfortunately, I don't think ANY toy to date has done an adequate job of capturing the G1 cartoon/comics character. The original toy comes closest, of course, and the RiD figure is at least still a car carrier while greatly improving in the articulation department.

Maybe someday we'll get a better one.

Titanium all the way. Sure, he has his spectacular flaws, but that doesn't get in the way of an awesome robot mode.
