I've been getting into "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex" recently. (I'm up to episode 12 of the 2nd season, so no spoilers past that point, please). I'm interested in getting some kind of Tachikoma figure, but there's quite a few out there, so I thought I'd get your opinions.

I'm not really big on die-cast or electronics, unless they add -that- much to a figure. Otherwise, my main criteria are anime-accuracy, durability, and price.

I also see that two series of blind-packed Tachikomas were released, one was a set of 8 in different colors that don't seem to be based on the show (unless that's something that comes later), and another was a set of 7 in more "realistic" colors that has pieces to build an Arm Suit, were either of these any good?

Here is a link to my Perfect Piece Tachikoma gallery on Flickr.

I really like this figure. It's a little pricey, but worth it. Super posable and comes with a lot of accessories straight from the show. There are more expensive versions that have diecast, but it that's not a big deal to you, get this one. It's 1/20 scale and made by Megahouse.

A more affordable alternative is also the Wave W.H.A.M. version:

They lack things like the opening cockpit details of the Megahouse and Good Smile versions, but if all you really want is a Tachikoma figure, it could be a good option.

Is that the same as this one at BBTS?

If so, I've had this in my Pile of Loot there for several months. I don't know what's taking them so long to get it!

Also, I didn't know that the Major fig had other parts/accessories to get into the cockpit, etc. That's awesome.

No, that's the Wave WHAM version that I linked. The different versions of the Tachikomas that are available get a little confusing.

Here's a rough breakdown, as near as I can tell:

Wave: Smallest, cheapest, all plastic representations. Also available in model kit form. Roughly $40ish imported

Megahouse: Shinier, with an opening cockpit and interior. Also plastic. $90-100ish

Fewture/Good Smile: Shiny, metal heavy, supposedly might have issues actually standing due to its own die cast weight. Includes a cool, articulated Major Kusanagi. $200ish

Some other ones I've forgotten about: There's a bunch of other little ones, including plushies, SD keychain sized ones, cute little ones with sweat drop addons, and more. Also, a rediculously expensive one is coming that you can link up to your computer, from Bandai, I believe.

I'm still sniffing-out a good Tachi, too. Ideally I'd love to get the Goodsmile version, but the thing has been in development limbo for so long that I'm not entirely convinced it will even be released. I'm also not sure I want a Tachi enough to pay that much for (I typically only spend that much on toys that transform or are SOC).

I've leaned towards the Megahouse figure a few times. I hadn't heard that Motoko has extra pieces to get her into the cockpit, that's pretty cool. It's not as cool as a fully articulated figure, but it's better than NO figure. And what is a Tachikoma afterall without a bodacious Motoko stuffed into it? :]

Grrr...that set is just too beautiful, I might have to cave and get it. I wonder if they'll ever release Motoko seperately?

Yes it isn't a Tachikoma but HOW can you resist the Major? You can't.

1/7 scale coming later this year. I'm sold.
