I've mixed my own paints from time to time and thoroughly enjoy the results. I'll generally use the cheap-o craft acrylic paint from Wal*mart coupled with some Testor's acrylics (since Testor's paints has the viscosity that works better for models). But TC is right, it can be a pain in a buttocks.
yes, but usually it HAS to be done to some extent, such as matching existing plastic colors, or other paints already applied. (ie ratchet lime green, or pime's metallic blue and red...you don't find those in a bottle) another reason we are forgetting about mixing your own colors, is, once that color is trashed or dried up, or you need to touch it up 2 weeks later....it's near impossible to match it (ESPECIALLY using acrylics, which tend to result in a darker shade once they dry)
Thats why I would never do, I have thought about buying spare bottles and making a new color but then it would go to waste as I probably would never use it again.
if you HAVE to, michaels (or even walmart) carry those small plastic containers for paints or crafts. They are air tight and will keep your paint wet about a week. They cost about $3 Also, another reason I use Enamels (hehe) my paints will stay 'wet' in those containers twice as long, and they never technically 'dry' as long as I soften up the dead paint with thinner...I revitalize it.
LOL @ F_R I never have, but I thought you could revitalize any paint so long as it has not completely dried out. Correct if I am wrong please.
Yeah, I have been told to revitalize chunky/thick paint by using either thinner or water, but once it gets to a dry/hard point it becomes like plastic and will not mix. Thats why paints that I don't use regularly are checked and shaken every so often.
