So I really don't like the look of the voyager Optimus I have for my classics so I picked up the megatron - optimus dvd two pack. I like this one a little better but is there a better one out there? I looked at the robot masters optimus but it's just too small. I painted on this guy and he looks ok but his alt mode sucks...

I have a tit g1 magnus coming to take the classics magnus spot.

If you want a true updated G1 Prime, there isn't one. They always tweak them a bit too much and one mode or the other looks like @$$. That one you have is probably the best looking bot mode, but as you said, the alt mode stinks. I had hoped to get a good G1 Prime update in classics, but the one we got fell short. He's a fantastic Prime, just doesn't really feel like a G1 update.

Well I really like the Deluxe classics Optimus, I think he has nicer posability for a smaller figure.

Perhaps, but MP Op in a Classics collection is a bit like...

"Autobots, transform and (looks around feet and knees) .. uh?"

"Prime, you just stepped on Hot Rod!"

"That'll solve a problem for my movie battle before it begins, excellent!" :)

How many times do they have to recycle this tired old design before y'all are satisfied? They made Masterpiece Prime, and that should've been the end of it. If you want an animation-accurate Prime robot, you're just going to have to live with a crap truck mode.

I like Voyager Classics Prime for the reason that it actually updates the design instead of slavishly copying it.

Voyager Classics Prime is the one Prime to rule them all. Looks great in both modes.

I've kitbashed my Robotmasters Prime to have a truck mode that actually looks like a truck, but as you said, it's way too small for Classics.

If you don't like Classics voyager Prime, I'd suggest waiting for First Strike Optimus Prime, the G1 style repaint of movie voyager Prime. Then, stick the Classics head on it.

I don't see anything wrong with wanting a cartoon accurate optimus to go with my classics.

I think that pegs my feelings on it, too.
I like the design, and it's a fantastic toy, but for some reason it just doesn't quite fill that G1 Prime void.
Although, I admit it's mostly just me being over picky.

There's nothing at all wrong with it. It's your opinion and your collection, after all. :)

But, having said that, the other Classics figures aren't really "cartoon accurate" either. Megatron, Grimlock, Mirage..... they all look pretty significantly different from their G1 counterparts. The others do too, to a lesser degree. To me it would be almost weird to have a perfectly G1 Prime while all the other characters have upgraded forms.

As for what Prime to use as a Classics stand-in, boy, I don't know, that's a tough one. No transformable G1-esque Prime is quite the right size. What exactly is it you don't like about the Classics one? If it's something simple like, say, his head design or lack of round headlights in truck mode, you might be better off just trying to kitbash him.

Sorry, I know that's not much help. Good luck!

EDIT: Oops, just noticed I typed "your opinion and our collection".... that was a typo, I meant "your collection." Sorry, the first version was just plain nonsensical. :)

I don't get the love for voyager OP, I have so much more fun with the 2-pack version.

Yeah you are right about the other classics after thinking about it. I just really hate the kibble on voyager ops arms.

    think of them as shields.

my only problem with the voyager prime is his head sculpt. doesnt look anything like G1 prime. all the other heads actually look like the proper version of the character, aside from cliffjumper, of course.

I'm sure we'll get at least one new Optimus in the upcoming Universe line.

Voyager prime is awesome. There's arm kibble, but it really doesn;t get in the way. It's WAY above that shitty deluxe Prime.

Oh you're seriously missing out on Voyager Prime. One of the best TF's ever made and he's armed like a mofo.

Voyager Classics Prime is pretty cool... make no mistake. But there's something too "sharp" about him, y'know? I understand the desire to have a good old-fashioned looking Prime sometimes. Also, I find that Classics Voyager Prime is a little too short to mix well with many of my other TFs. If he'd been molded a bit bigger, I'd probably like him more.

Anyway, for me it's the 8" KO RM Optimus! I know I pimp this figure a lot, but I just love him. He's nice and large compared to Deluxe figures, poseable, decent quality for a KO, and very G1.

With a few paint touch-ups here and there, I think he could be even better.

He's still pretty easy to find on Ebay... the seller chimungmung has tons of them up for sale regularly.
