ok, so i need this movie on dvd...however, when searching
Deep Discount i found multiple versions of the 68 classic on dvd....so, if you have this movie on dvd, which version to do you? and are the special features good, etc....

also, price counts for something as well...seeing as how some of the versions are 18 bucks, while others are 6....

oh, and i dont want the 1990 version either....at least i think i dont....

Ok I can help. I got a few versions of NOTLD on DVD.

The $18 one is great. Lots of bonus stuff on it.

the $10 is great too because it has a colorized version and Mike Nelson riffing on it.

Avoid the $12 one. It is pure crap. They add new footage (shot in the 90s) and it is glaringly bad. It like watching Rocky and suddenly a Rambo scene is spliced in. The new scenes are poorly acted. Basically it is stuff that takes place outside the cabin. Think they had stuff like the black guy's back story about the diner. Also had stuff of a preacher talking about hell has risen and crap.

Don't know about the other one. I'm guessing it is a bare bones version. NOTLD has no copy right on the film so you could copy it and sell your own versions of it.

hey thanks alot....is there a version of this in widescreen? or are they all just full frame? it seems like everything deep discount has is that way....at least with this movie...and land of the dead...which they have for 6 bucks, but i really hate full frame....

It was shot in full frame so you will not find a widescreen version.

one suggestion I have is to get the $18 version and then get the rifftrax of NOTLD from www.rifftrax.com

ok, i thought that might be a possibility....and i may have to do that, cuz the thing i really like about the cheap one is that commentary....but still, im gonna wait a few days til payday anyway, so ive got time to decide....cuz while i do love special features, i rarely ever watch them....

I would suggest that you avoid the colourised version, unless it is an optional extra. B/w is much better, the colour just looks WEIRD.

My version is in the Trilogy Of The Dead box set, and it's good quality and extras.

Wow. There's over a dozen versions on dvd aficianado, and that's not including multi-pack box sets. I think it's got to be a contender for the most editions.

I've got the old "Elite" version (http://www.dvdaficionado.com/dvds.html?cat=0&tiq=02611), which works for me. I prefer this to be a somewhat lower quality movie. Feels more like authentic footage when it hasn't been remastered.

But definately stay away from the colorized version (what's the point?) and the 30th Anniversary SE.

The guys are right, the Elite Entertainment version is by far the best. They remastered the hell out of it and the picture is awesome. I'm pretty sure this is the version that Romero endorses, too.

I wish Criterion would get off their ass and put out a NOTLD.

As I understand it, the problem is that somebody f'd up big time and didn't register NOTLD back in the day so it is technically considered public domain, which is why you can find shitty copies in the dollar rack at WalMart.

Anybody see the 3D remake with Sid Haig from last year?

BTW, it was shot full frame. They'd probably crop the hell out of it for WS.

I saw a poster for it on IMDB a long time ago then absolutely nothing.
Did it come out? Was it any good?

    General question:
Why avoid the 1990 remake of the film?
I kind of liked that version.

Supposedly it came out November. It looks like it'd be cool for a midnight show.

Here's the site with the trailer.

If you watch the Documentary on the DVD, you can see how much the MPAA made them cut from the film. The commentary with Savini alone makes the DVD worth the purchase in my opinion.

    For the 1990 version?

Savini was Sex Machine in Dusk till Dawn, right?

hey, on a side note, i found the 1st ten minutes of the zombie movie i was in on youtube...

    Stink of flesh

its got some swearing and grossness to it...so be careful. right around 6 minutes into that is my part...my hair was uberhippy long, and ive got a green shirt on...i know in previous zombie discussions ive mentioned this before, so i figured id share it....

and i just found it on deepdiscount.com too...awesome....

Again the $18 is awesome.. It also has one of my fav little extra a parody film called Night of the Living Bread. It is priceless. Take NOTLD, remove zombies, add slices of white bread and you got a hilarious short parody. Also that version of the film has Romero commentary.

Also again, the 30th anniv sucks major ass like Joe said and should be avoided unless you can find it for free.. even then it is iffy..

    edit:

    hehe found NOTLB on YouTube
