So many have been worth the money... I'll go over some highlights (either because they were a particularly good deal or because they've gotten a lot of use). Classics Soundwave: $30 for a G1 Soundwave (wanted one since I was a kid) and two cassettes? Soundwave and Ravage remain two of my favorite TF figures of all time. Classics Mirage: On clearance for $4, and stupidly posable and cool-looking. Energon Sharkticon: Standard Deluxe Price (may have been a bit less, actually, but barely), but I've gotten a lot of use out of it. Love its look and alt-mode. Really, one of my favorite TFs. Legends Bonecrusher (Movie 1): For the current price of a Legend I got Bonecrusher and Jazz, whom I gave to a girlfriend's cousin (so... small bonus). But bottom line, I love that little guy. Bonecrusher has a cool design and a great alt-mode, and the Legends figure managed to capture a surprising amount of this. RtS Lugnut: $10 Voyager, one of my favorite alt-modes (I love the WWII vibe and the shark-tooth deco), and an amazing robot mode (good looking, posable and stable, and FINGERS)
I think the $40 I spent on TFTM Leader Brawl back in '07 was well worth it. That is perhaps the only movie figure that I ever regret selling. I also picked up Classics Prime and Jetfire at $20 apiece at TRU around the same time. Purchases that I still don't regret. I believe I got what I paid for. I'm not sure that I can really comment on 3rd party stuff. I'm totally aware that I'm paying a lot more than I'd like, but my only justification for spending ~$50 on an FP Insecticon is that there isn't an actual Hasbro equivalent available right now.
I'd have to say the "best money spent" is on my collection in its entirety. I'm pretty selective w/ what I buy so I can't say I have any regrets post facto. If I had to key in on specific figures however...SDCC Soundwave, MP Grimlock (TRU), MP Starscream (Wal-mart), MP Rodimus Prime (TRU), Insecticons (TRU G1 Reissue), Perceptor (TRU G1 Reissue), Takara Encore Tape Sets (17 & 19), Takara Encore Convoy (01), RTS SS Grappel, among others. Like I alluded to previously, I only purchase what I like so in that sense, to me, it's all money well spent.
I'm quite easy to please and hardly say a purchase was a waste of money. Having said that, the latest "money well spent" toy is Jetwing Optimus Prime. I'm still patching up the hole in my wallet, but I'm still very happy.
Classics Jetfire. I still think one of these days I'll meet up with a Hasbro rep and ask "can I pay you MORE for this figure?"
two weeks ago I got a ROTF leader prime and jetfire loose for $55 shipped. I was pretty happy about that.
RtS Lugnut is worth more than what I paid for him, so I'm going to have to go with him. $10 is an absolute steal for that toy!
This : STAR WARS - TRANSFORMERS/CROSSOVERS | eBay I just won it for £8.00 and Not seen one for years now and always wanted one - now to find the Jungle ATAT to go with it Other than that Black Emperor though Perhaps it's something i'd otherwise never had been able to get like a Blue Bat Soundwave I bought on a whim as Prototype. Or something like my 2007/2008 Wonderfest Arcee.
Generation Warpath Animated EG Bumblebee, cool looking figure and I got it for $1 on Hasbro online last year. HA Half Track, really like the figure and getting it free is even better. (Thanks Hasbro for the online glitch.)
To add to this: Amazon Unicron BW 10th Anniversary Optimus Primal vs. Megatron BW Depth Charge RTS G2 Optimus Prime HFTD Leader Starscream
Encore Ironhide + custom head Titanium Sunstorm Acid Storm Reissue G1 Prowl RM Mirage Generations Windcharger Oversized KO Bruticus Oversized Robotmasters Wrecker Hook, Wingstun, Air Hunter Junior Headmaster Chromedome Classics Cyclonus
Oh hey look, a thread where I can mention (again) how I got a complete unopened 2006 Botcon Set for $200 in 2010. That happened to me. Not to you, to me. In real life. Yup.
I agree! I was going through my collection about a month ago and was pretty satisfied with my choices. The only regret I really have is that I have 4 '07 bumblebees and just can't justify getting battleblades , nitro or any of the other bees despite the improved designs.
Pretty much all of the third party stuff I have, aside from the Superion add-on set. And that's only because I got that just recently, not when it first came out when it was like $50. Now, something I definitely think was worth every penny I spent for it was the SWTF Darth Vader/Death Star at Zellers. $40 well spent ...and half of that was for Animated Voyager OP!
