Category:Films based on video games - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list on that link provides more films, but I’ve picked the ten most notable ones.

    Personally, I picked STREET FIGHTER.
Best of Bison Part One - YouTube

This was pure 1990s cheesefest. The kind of film where you watched and said “WTF is this?!” (even back when it premiered) but didn’t care because it was an awesome film based on an awesome VG and gave an awesome ride. It’s got a great cast that does their bit well: Kylie Minogue as Cammy, Ming-Na as Chun-Li, Van Damme as Guile and, most significantly, an incredible swansong performance from Raul Julia as the megalomaniac villain M.Bison. It’s a treat to watch this film again for Julia’s performance, even if there’s nothing else redeemable about it.

Gotta go with MK overall, but Raul Julia's Bison is the single best thing from any of those movies by a mile.

They are all just so bad... I mean, Resident Evil wasn't so bad back in the day, so I guess that's my choice.

<smartass> None of the above since the list doesn't contain House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark, or any of the Bloodrayne Movies. </smartass>

Mortal Kombat all the way. If you were a teen in the mid 90s, this was exactly what you wanted in a Mortal Kombat movie. It's great to know that a movie studio saw a video game where the story was about a handfull of human fighters that need to fight against ninjas, monsters, and a wizard from another dimension, and said "yes, film this exactly."

Silent Hill was pretty good to, but it strayed a little from the mindf**k that is the game.

Silent Hill for me. It's not perfect by any means, but it succeeded the most in capturing the essence of a game and putting it on screen.

Agreed. I love Silent Hill and eagerly look forward to SH2 later this month.

I also love the 1st Resident Evil movie, but I wouldn't say it adapts the game much . . . if at all. It's a great movie in the spirit of the game. Parts 2-5 range from average to awful though.

That movie will be awesome. I'm a little scared that I haven't heard any news on it in a while now, but I hope they start working on the movie soon.

My personal favorite video game movie is Tomb Raider. It isn't a great adaptation of a game, but I thought it was pretty fun. Angelina Jolie was at her hottest in this movie and never really reached that level of beauty in anything since. My second favorite is Prince of Persia. It wasn't perfect, but it was fun and I enjoyed the parkour scenes. The opening scene in particular felt like video game level. Hitman had some neat action in it and Timothy Olyphant, but not much else. I hate the Resident Evil movies with a passion. I'm glad that there are people who find enjoyment in them, but to me, they're really stupid and they're all the same (she's always falling backwards to avoid something sharp in slow motion). The worst ones are made by Uwe Boll and his worst is Postal. In my top ten worst movies of all time, Uwe Boll's movies take up three spots.

If there was a none of the above option I'd go with that, but since there isn't I'll settle with Mortal Kombat. It wasn't as bad as it could have been.

In my opinion I think that the only really good Live-Action adaptation of a Video Game Title has been Silent Hill. Sure Mortal Kombat and Prince of Persia and the Sands of Time come close but hands down Silent Hill is the leader of the pack.

And you probably shouldn't watch any of them because most of them suck and a few are ok.

Eh, maybe Tomb Raider. And some are goofy fun, like Street Fighter. But none of them really work as adaptations.

Silent Hill, with Resident Evil and Doom tailing behind.
