Doing my custom Megatron has got me thinking about what his best episode(s) were. Throughout the series there seem to be some specific episodes that really showcase a character:

    "Changing Gears" ... Gears
    "The Immobilizer" ... Ironhide
    "Make Tracks" ... Tracks
    "The Golden Lagoon" ... Beachcomber

What episodes do you think best showcase Megatron?

For me, I think it is
"Heavy Metal War" -- really one of the best fights between Megs and Prime,
even if Megs cheats and has non-Megs powers throughout.

That or the first couple of episodes because it showed him actually having a fighting chance against Prime. He was also pretty cool in the movie.

I think those instances did a nice job showing him fight and making his gun mode appear useful.

In Atlantis, Arise he shows some guts going one-on-one with Grimlock. And I like him in Countdown to Extinction.

    There is also

"The revenge of Bruticus" :in the ending it shows very well one of the reasons why Megatron always spares Starscream even after all his usurpation attempts.

I agree. I like the way he manages to smooth talk Berger about "Autobot propaganda." It would have been interesting for the series to further explore Megatron's powers of, well, deception, lol.

I was going to say this one also. It is the only episode where it shows the Decepticons doing something other than trying to be evil.

True true,it was a very well developed and scheming plan,Megatron used everything he could to manipulate humans and justyfing their previous attacks.
Maybe they could have created some few episodes with a very deceptive Megatron but without exaggerating in quantity.

Megatron, although is certainly very smart and the episode demonstrates it, surely doesn't appreciate this approach in his strategy,he relies much more on brute force.

Both Ultimate DOOM and Megatron's Master Plan are the best G1 Episodes for Megatron.

I always thought of G1 has a sort of treasure trove of good ideas that were never adequately (if ever) expanded upon. I'd love to go back through it and try and redo G1 in a modern setting and with modern animation but with a far more coherant narrative and character arcs.

The ground is fertile, but it must be tended.
