What's the best arc for this series? It's the only series I haven't read yet.
I don't really remember any specific arcs, but I thoroughly enjoyed the series up until Dark Cybertron. After that, it goes downhill tremendously.
The first one I guess? There aren't really many arcs worth talking about. maybe the annual. The annual was pretty good.
1-16 and the annual are worth reading. After that it's largely Dark Cybertron prep, followed by Dark Cybertron, followed by... eh. A lot of setting up Combiner Wars, without any real payoff because not a lot happens in Combiner Wars.
It never gets bad really, but yeah, once the whole plot is done where Bumblebee, Metalhawk, and Starscream are jockeying to be leader of Cybertron, that's kinda the peak over with.
Thanks! I have dark cybertron. So I guess I just need the ones before it.
Everything before Dark Cybertron except the preludes is pretty boring but everything from then on gets pretty good.
Especially Eartfall and Onyx interface.
In regards to the post Dark Cybertron RID stories I always enjoyed the Conquerors arc the most, mainly due to the beautiful art and the fantastic build up to All Hail Optimus.
Issue 50 was very good. Very enjoyable.
All Hail Optimus was awesome
After rereading it in trades, the first major storyline (1-16 + the annual) is a really well done political drama with excellent characterization and, for the most part, has a very nice pace to its narrative (things stagger a bit at the end, but not too bad). Before the title had to bear the brunt of every crossover, I think it was just as consistently strong as MTMTE was in its first season.
Also, even the Dark Cybertron prep made for some fantastic character work, specifically the Shockwave and Soundwave flashback issues (17, 21-22). And Dark Cybertron itself reads as a much stronger story coming off of the main ex-RID arc, as opposed to reading it on its own (which it seems like many people did, and hated it).
Sorry to bump this, but when does the Prowl mind control stuff take place, I would like to read that. Was it the 1st arc?
All Hail Optimus is the only thing that feels like a Transformers team book.
Anything before Dark Cybertron is a Prowl/Arcee Spotlight issue, with the occasional Starscream spotlight issue.
since after Dark Cybertron the stretch from after Optimus and Prowl fight till All Hail Optimus was pretty damn good.
Then issue 50 happened turned to shit.
That's pretty much the entire first arc of RID, from issues 1-16 (plus the Annual, which falls between 9 and 10). The repercussions of that linger on through the rest of the book up to Combiner Wars, though.
Thanks, I already bought volumes 4 and 5. So I guess I need the rest now.
Not entirely, there are a few Dark Cybertron prelude stories in there, But yeah its mostly the Prowl/Arcee/Starscream/Bumblebee show.
Even after Dark Cybertron Its still pretty much a book about Arcee and Starscream with a bit of OP and Galvatron mixed in. But there is a bit more focus on other characters and a bit more variation in the stories.
The City on Fire story that concludes the first arc is really great.
Post DC, the latest one is pretty nice.
Basically it does conclusions well.
On the whole it's not nearly as split up into sub arcs as mtmte is, there's much more 'continually shifting political situations'. Eventually the situations come to a head in big clashes that tend to be impressive.
Honestly, I know that nobody will agree with me, but Earthfall was pretty much the only part of the series I enjoyed for more than one issue. I just really hate notRID.
I actually had no idea there was already a Transformers arc called Earthfall.
Here's the best ones in my opinion:
#5 I like how Ironhide takes an impossible stand for the Decepticons, he wants true equality and has the Decepticon I.D chips removed to gain further peace.
#11-16 The season finale is really great, plenty of action and everything (mostly) is revealed.
#21-22 The "Shockpoint" arc where Soundwave takes center stage. John Barber is the the best Soundwave writer in my opinion. I want a solo Soundwave series, but Soundwave doesn't really shine until season 2.
#28-32 The "Earthfall" arc is a nice introduction to some of the new human characters, and reintroduction to characters like Jazz, Thundercracker. Oh, and Prowlvastator.
#43-44 Gives supporting characters like Cosmos and Needlenose the spotlight.
