I have been looking to treat myself to a Unit-01 figure, and am leaning to the SoC Unit-01 (classic version, not the new movie one), but I haven't been able to find a review. Are there any out there better than this? And is the rumor about busted hips true, or is that just people being stupid with how they handle them? As this is quite an investment for somebody like me, I want to make sure I get the best bang for my buck. Thanks in advance!

Well you can go with the Bandai Eva XS-01... But thats the one with the hip problem. I had him sitting on my shelf for 3 months never moved. Went to pack him away and BOOM the lef fell right off, broke from the joint. I was soo pissed off at the sheet quality.
If you go on Ebay you can the Yahoo exclusive which i bought to replace witch has much better quality but lacks all the cool accessories.

Your choice if you want to take a gamble LOL, good luck

NO to EVA XS-01. My friend who bought this also had a problem with the joint at one of its legs. It broke off after making it did a high kick. I did a joke about his EVA once he threw a hissy fit on me. :p

Go for SOC, model kit or others, anything but XS-01, or SOC Spec (another name).

I've had the same problems with my XS-01.

But HLJ.com was able to send me a replacement set.

The SOC is indeed pretty sweet but the coloring is off.

Have you considered any of the Revoltech versions?

I would personally NOT recommend the original SoC Eva-01. I'm probably in a minority in my dislike for the figure, but on my own copy his joints aren't strong enough to support his die-cast weight. Yes, it's gorgeous, but the damn thing can barely stand, and to top it off you can't even take him apart that easily to reinforce the hip ball joints or knees because he's got glued-in screw covers on his legs.

I personally like this guy (movie realization EVA-01):

The revoltech options are also affordable, playable, and fairly problem-free.

those are pretty nice eva 01's that i see. the type F armor is sorta interesting, first time i ever saw it. i agree the revoltech looks pretty good and i like this one http://www.hlj.com/product/KYD01109 . the evas that i have are the old kaiyodo models that came out in 05. its also in the original style box rather the newer repackaged one. although they weren't too pose able, i still find them cool.

Whoa! Thanks for the feedback on the Spec Eva-p1! I was thinking of picking up next week! After reading about the joint problems, I will sadly give him a miss.

Don't be so quick to count out the XS-03 Spec Eva 01. This is based on the Rebuild of Eva movie version and doesn't have the hip breaking problem. The sculpt it updated and the neck is longer for better berserk poses. It also comes with a sick machine gun. I'd highly recommend it. That or the Movie Realization.

Thanks guys. My whole reason for not getting a Revoltech is size. I want this sucker for display, for a drawing reference, and for light play and goofy photos. Trying to detail everything on the revoltech would be a bit harder, otherwise I'd get it. The new movie version is cool, but I think I'd like to go for the classic version.

Could you guys link to me the verisions without the hip problem? There are just so many to keep track of and I don't want to get the wrong one.

Thanks again, I didn't expect this many replies! =D

The one with the reported hip breakages.
    http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN941839

And the new movie version that's break free.
    http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN949498

They both stand about 8 inches tall to the top of the shoulder blades so size is no issue here.

Aww... so there's no classic version of Unit-01 that doesn't have hip breakage? =(

The Yahoo Japan exclusive version supposedly had better joints, but it can only look like when it was Berserk from episode 19 and has less accessories

I wouldnt say that the quality is that much better on the Yahoo one. Mine has been standing on a shelf for a couple months in my apartment, and I just picked him up to move him to a different room, and his knee snapped off. :(

Well, the new version it is then? Is the problem truly fixed on that one?

I hate bumping, but I'd really like to be sure before I make a purchase.

I still stand by the Movie Realization Eva-01 as a worthwhile purchase. No diecast, but it wont arbitrarily break on you, looks awesome, and is just as tall as the Specs.
