By "Easter egg" I don't mean TF concepts reinvented, I mean little in-jokes and homages to different elements of the TF franchise, as mentioned below:

- the VW Beetle next to Bumblebee (that he breaks)

- Bumblebee's transmissions (a John Wayne clip, a STAR TREK clip, and an Orson Welles clip)

- Jorge Figueroa (in homage to TF writer Don Figueroa)

- the Hasbro toys that appeared in the film (Furbies, My Little Pony, Takara)

- The "transformer" statement by Ron Witwicky (that was an actual statement, and not a title that it was later used as in the sequels)

- The talk about Japanese (Sam at first thinks Bumblebee is Japanese, and later Simmons calls the Nokia a Japanese phone)

- Megatron pimp-flicking MBay

Personally I didn't like the VW Beetle bit, as it getting trashed by Bay 'Bee felt to me like Bay was having a dig at the old version with his new version. 'Here's your crappy old Bumblebee. Now watch my awesome new Bumblebee bitch-slap it about'.

 

Yea, but the very fact it was there is awesome.

 

To see a yellow Beetle was nice. For it to get beat up by new 'Bee wasn't.

I suppose it would be like if the new Batman movie had a scene where he beat up someone wearing an Adam West Batman costume. Or something.

 

I liked Megatron flicking poor Bay. Just a nice lil' twist to show off Meg's callous attitude towards lil' humans

If I had to pick my favourite, it'd be the old-school transformation sounds. We here it highlighted in Blackout's transformation in Qatar and then 'Bee's final transformation in DotM. The first and last transformation (thusfar) of the series have that poignant noise. Almost like bookends. And of course the sound clip is sprinkled in a few other transformations as well.

But I really don't think it was really 'Bee bitch-slapping the VW bug or some sort of secret agenda by Bay to say "Take THAT, G1!". If anything it was a deliberate reference between old and new. I mean, yes, he opened his door and smacked the VW bug, that's obvious. It was basically 'Bee's subtle way of being like "Hey, pick me! No, not that VW bug! I'm sent here to guard you, Sam! Pick me!" *smack* "Welp, guess you can't have the VW bug. Guess you'll have to buy me." Reference between old and new and a way for Bumblebee to basically make Sam's decision for him.

 

I like the Camaro as BB's new alt mode. I just can't see him rolling through the streets of Chicago as a VW Beetle. It's just not happening for me.

 

I liked the "transformer" statement from Ron. I found it funny he said that looking out the window and all these Transformers are doing their best to hide. I just lol'ed. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how he missed the huge Optimus Prime though. He wasn't hiding very well.

Gotta say the "transformer" statement. It was awesome. I love all of the little easter eggs though.

Everything is part of Bay's secret anti-G1 agenda.

Ron Witwicky's Transformer comment. Especially since I had only discovered the electrical meaning of a Transformer two months before watching the movie.

 

How is the "blown transformer" line an easter egg? isn't it just a play on words, and aren't easter eggs supposed to be somewhat hidden?
