So, who do you think is the best combiner ever?

Personally, I've got to give it to this guy:

He just really hits all the important points of a combiner for me. Firstly, the whole invertebrate theme the three individual guys have works great. Second, the deep purple the three share really comes out in the combined mode. Third, the individual robots are actually totally decent on their own. And fourth, the combined robot has just perfect distribution of the three's parts.

He's got a great head, asymetrical arms, awesome poseability, and a surprising lack of kibble. It's pretty much just limited to the lobster halves on his legs.

And dispite having grown up with Magnaboss, and only getting Tripredacus later in life, he just seems SO superior to Magnaboss in my eyes.

    I can see that.

In all the Bruticus discussions, Tripredicus is the only one that I can really find who matches the new Bruticus in terms of cohesion, quality solo figures, and a quality combined mode.

Rail Racer falls flat on his face when it comes to the solo figures. Not one of the solo figures would I like to have in my collection. And I don't like Magnaboss either. The solo figures aren't as good, and I don't like the combined mode either (though his sword is amazing).

That said, I'm going to go with the Seacons for my vote. They're really playable for G1 figures on their own, surprisingly posable, have awesome gun modes, their stands are ridiculously playable, a uniform color scheme, sweet alt-modes, and just are a lot of fun.

When it comes to Hasbro figures, I have that one and Magnaboss at a tie.

Tripredacus really is up there with the best of them.

Do 2-figure powerups like Omega Prime count?

Eh, I'll leave the "what counts as a combiner?" distinction to your own discretion. Far be it from me to say what is and isn't a combiner.

I think both the BW combiners are amazing, and are my favourite combiners of all. I think they both win because they don't follow the pattern of "you are a leg, you are an arm, or maybe both a leg or an an arm. You, on the other hand are a torso". While I understand the play value involved with this type of combining, it really restricts the look and the stability.

The Beast Wars combiners adhered to no such rules and instead played by their own, which allowed the individual members to serve a dedicated purpose and form a stable and solid action figure in it's own right.

I love both Mags and Tripredacus, but Magnaboss just clinches it for his old skool action figure-ness and character. I just wish Silverbolt wasn't molded from that terrifying gold plastic!

Traditional and official? Predaking. Scramble city only? Piranacon. Non-traditional? Omega Prime or Rail Racer. PCC? Dino-Pope! Cybertron w/o upgrades? Umm... Maybe Bruticus Maximus, I guess. Unofficial? Nothing beats Hercules. Nothing.

I gotta give it to the one combiner that started it all......the mighty G1 Devastator.

I only have Tripredacus and Legends Devastator (and G2 Bruticus on preorder), but I can say I'm not terribly interested in many of the other combiners out there. I don't consider anything less than 3 robots a "true" Combiner, the G1 figures are simply too dated for me, 3rd Party is way too expensive, and I'm very much against any that rely on extra parts, which rules out a LOT of them.

Of the two I do have, I prefer Tripredacus. I have a soft spot for beast-formers, especially icky, gribbly bugs (well, arthropods). The figures on there own are pretty amazing, only Ram Horn has any real drawback from being part of a gestalt (and even then only in bot-mode). His combination sequence is unique and clever; the individual bugbots all wrap in and around each other but still make it obvious he's three guys in one (unlike Magnaboss); the way Ram Horn appears to have been ripped in two is especially awesome (that tripped me up so much when I first combined them, haha). The only real negative I have is his odd right "hand", and even then only because the combined weapon is obviously meant to be a hand itself but can only attach at an odd angle (palm forward or palm backward). Still, as someone who appreciates 'ugly' he's one of my favorite TFs.

...granted he has a HUGE advantage over Devastator do to being, well, larger than him and thus far more articulated, detailed, etc.. If the Constructicons were even just Scouts...

I usually vote for Predaking but, I recently rekindled my love for the Seacons.
