Hey I'm looking to buy some of the older A/E/C line for some updated G1/Classics type customs and I was wondering which figures have to best articulation.

Good arm, leg and waist articulation are my main concerns. I think some of the best examples of almost perfect articulation are Classics - Mirage (minus the weird head movement), Prowl and Sunstreaker

I haven't bought a whole lot of figures from older lines since I was mostly only buying Alternators at the time they were out. I want to build my classics line up with more Stunticons, Minibots, all car bots pretty much, and maybe updated Aerialbots (I already own Energon Superion but he could use some different limbs)

Please no TF: Animated or Movie figs as they don't have the proper asthetic for Classics IMO

Most Cybertron figs have pretty good articulation (a lot of them are basically Classics in terms of quality). Armada and Energon figs tend to be less good for articulation, though - Energon Autobots are largely hindered by their combiner gimmick, and Armada figs just hadn't got there yet (despite the pioneering of articulation actually happening in G2). Some of the Energon Decepticons have it pretty good, though.

    Sunstreaker, Mirage, and Optimus

    All classics, of course

Thanks for the run down. I suppose I kind of knew all this before but I was wondering if there were any really stand out figures in the lines maybe I wasn't aware of. I like Hot Shot from Cyb and Red Alert,Cannonball (which I'm gonna trun into classics Trailbreaker) Cyb Blurr artic sucks but I think I'm just gonna try to dive into adding some on my own

Been thinking about using Prime for Motormaster but I just don't know yet. I already have OP UM and NP in my classics display. I like F_R Motormaster from cyb Prime I believe it was. How's his articulation? Any other MM ideas out there?

Cyb Blurr's articulation sucks for same reason as Cybertron Runamuck and Buzzsaw's, and to a lesser extent, Longrack's. Simply, it's because they're retools of Armada figs, which as I said, rarely had decent articulation.

Of all the figures I had, hat's off to Armada Hoist\Cybertron Longrack. Some of the best leg articulation right there. Energon towline was also good [ideal for a skids custom] with pretty basic but good articulation on his limbs.

Not entirely helpful, but it's the best I can do ;)

    Energon Mirage/Dreadwing.
For a shellformer, he's surprisingly very well articulated.

Energon Bulkhead. He's not discussed alot, but he's great. And he's very easy to turn into Springer.

Cybertron Defense Scattorshot is pretty capable in the arm/leg/waist department.

Mirage and Cybertron Smokescreen. Both can pull off some good poses.

    Do Cybertron movie repaints count?

Because I made Movie Wingblade my Classics Springer. I even created a car mode like RID Megatron's car mode.
But to really enjoy him, you got to snap off ends of the wings for full arm articulation.
Plus, I don't why, but I fiddle with him the most than any other figure of my collection.

The Cybertron Hard Top/Swindle mold is pretty impressive, especially for a Scout size figure.

I jyst picked up Hoist at Cybcon and you're right. I think I'll keep him for a possible constructicon and the head would work as KUP I think. I have Tow-line too but with Ironhide and Ratachet coming out I don't know who to make him into
Just got Universe Blades and you're right, not sure if I'll use him as Blades though cuz he's kind of big for Defensor. I already use Botcon Springer as my Springer though
I just got Universe Dropshot and I agree. Thinking about repainting him but as who?
I've heard mixed things about that Smokescreen but I might pick up the mold, I was thinking about getting the Crosswise version for a Stunticon repaint into Wildrider.

Thanks for all the help guys

Why not Brawl? The mold looks pretty good next to Onslaught, and that's who I use him as...

The mold was clearly born to be Flak.
