I am sorry if someone has done this thread before im just curious about what your opinions are as its such a varied continuanity in both style and tone and currently heading into the new chaos era.

My personaly really like simon firmans early run as it was well thought out with the decepticon phase system and it planted mysterys in it storylines which graduarly revealed themselves. last stand of the wreckers was class too it was both smart and fun. in these storys obscure characters like nightbeat, hardhead, doubledealer and overlord stole the show and made refreshing changes to the usual go-to characters.Ongoing is just starting to get good with a great dialogue between pime and megatron As for weak points I cant think of one really weak part which stands out but more a feeling that some comics I have bought recently have spent a large amount of its content plot-hole filling or backtracking to previous events and not enough time moving forward. what do you think?

    Hmmm...

    BEST
    ------------------------------------------------------------------

    - EJ Su's Transformers art... anywhere. I've seen that guy go through 4 different distinct styles, and it's all good.
    - Simon Furman's slow burn, back-to-basics rebeginning
    - Infiltration
    - Escalation

    - Spotlight Kup... (Trailbreaker saves the day!)
    - Spotlight Wheelie
    - Megatron and Starscream display mutual respect in Devastation
    - character and world-building in All Hail Megatron
    - the AHM Coda Prowl story
    - Last Stand of the Wreckers
    - Thundercracker's character arc between AHM and Ongoing...
    - Decepticon internal decay on Charr (for what it was worth, a great issue, but ultimately lost in the shuffle of Costa's overall mediocrity)
    - Roberts' two-parter... one of the best Transformers stories... well, ever
    - renewed sense of direction heading into CHAOS... we'll see if it lasts....

    WORST
    ------------------------------------------------------------

    - Stormbringer... no sound and fury, all noise
    - Furman's turgid fumbling towards cosmic grandiosity in Devastation/Revelations
    - Spotlight Arcee and Freudian Panic Vampire Transsexual Arcee (now there's an anime series that should be made)
    - Spotlight Ramjet (dumb, dumb, dumb...)
    - All Hail Megatron's first and last issues both just sucked
    - Sniperceptor!
    - Spike, Spike, Spike... every damn thing he does and says
    - the whole mess of bad decisions and bad writing that is the first 2 years of the Ongoing... I can't even be bothered to break it down to an itemized list.

You'll notice that I didn't include Heart of Darkness, Megatron Origin or Maximum Dinobots on the Worst list... though I think all 3 of those series were jumbled messes. However, I think all 3 of them also had some interesting stuff in them. For example, Heart of Darkness was trying something new both in the characterization of Galvatron, and in the wildly awkward art. Not the best, but not all bad either.

Spotlight: Ramjet was supposed to be a joke, man. It wasn't a serious story.

I didn't say it was serious... I just said it sucked. :)

I thought it was poorly done and awkwardly written. When it comes down to it, a bad joke is still a bad joke. The art was okay though...

Megatron viciously attacks someone with lethal intent, and is horrified when he kills him? Then he suddenly decides to become a gladiator and kills all the time with no emotion whatsoever?

The paragraph above? It summarises most of the first issue AND part of the second. Each comic takes about 5 to 10 minutes tops to read, because the book is padded out with "OOHH!s", "URGH!s", and dark, colorless, and sometimes hard to interpret art.

It fits very, very loosely into IDW's continuity with a few contradictions. The ending reads like a bad cliffhanger, and is never resolved. Characters join Megatron's group with no motivation. On top of all that, the book tries from the start to make Megatron into some sort of tragic character you're supposed to feel sorry for, but it fails. All it does is make Megatron look like some bipolar whackjob.

When it came out, it was the worst Transformers series IDW had published. It doesn't belong on any "Best of" list, period.

Some things are so mediocre or bad, it is wrong to say they're the best. Megatron: Origins is "Garfield: The Movie" bad.

Just because my opinion doesn't match up with yours does not invalidate my opinion in any way. IMO, Megatron: Origins was a great book that made Megatron a tragic figure and gave him a depth that he had never had. It was well written and the art was pretty good to, hence why it is on my best list.

LSotW is the only truly great thing IDW has produced in the entire time they've had the TF comic license. Some of Furman's early work in the -ation series is decent, but everything else they've released has been crap.
