Already an Iron Man 3 thread. Don't need to make a new thread when a movie has casting news. That said, he looks like Mandarin.
I don't think he will be the Mandarin, but I'm bit sure who the villain could be at all. I'm not really familiar with all of Iron Man's villains. I think Ezekiel Stane could work, but it would feel tacked on.
Shane Black, the director, finds the Mandarin to be a "racist stereotype" so he refuses to use the character. That crosses one possibility off the list. Rumour has it that the entire film will be based on Extremis.
This Heck......I remember there was once a radio show that was talking about Ben Kingsley playing the Vulture back when Spider-Man 4 was an idea. Maybe if this remake makes money, and Ben is still around, I would love him to be a sequel.
No, Ben was going to play vulture in Spider-Man 3, but got replaced by venom Vulture would had been palyed by the guy who played Bruce Brazos In DOTM, in Spider-Man 4 had not it been cancelled
Wut? You had one guy in the first movie with a fancy ring. That's it. If only he were wrong. But unfortunately the Mandarin is totally a racist stereotype.
You forgot the rest of the terrorist organization, The Ten Rings. They weren't all wiped out in Afghanistan, they are still functioning in IM2 when they got Whiplash to Monaco, and we still don't know who the true leader is.
Wait how is the Mandarian a rascist sterotype, I'l admit he's not the most famaliar supervillian to me? I remember the Iron Man Armoured Adventures version looks pretty badass, they need to use a design like that. Sir Ben Kingsley as Mandarian or anyone in general FTW!
I'm Chinese and I find this fucking ludicrous. I'm sure I'm not the only one of my race who feels this way. What a load of bullshit. Well-put.
Good one. 1.) He's 68. That's hardly ancient. He won't crumble to dust when he sets foot on set. Plus, he played the villain in Prince of Persia which was what? Two years ago? Boy, I tell ya', those two years are gonna' be a killer for him. 2.) So "old people" can't play villains? Ian McKellan, Christopher Lee, Nick Nolte, Jeff Bridges, Geoffrey Rush and Ian McDiarmid would like a word with you. And those are only the ones that come to mind. And after all of that, what if his role isn't physical? What if it's a big CG villain and he voices him? Will he be too old for that as well? Kingsley's capable of doing both; being an on-screen villain and a voice-over villain. They're playing the racist card? I mean, I can see where they can find it to be racists, but ... the answer is simple: DON'T MAKE IT RACIST. The character has been changed and updated before, there's no reason that he has to be a cape-wearing, beard-twirling, magical Asian sorcerer with a thick Asian accent. Yeah, I heard that Kingsley's role will have something to nanotech technology, so Extremis fits in pretty well with that. Could prove interesting. I don't think there's that much that went to waste. Sure, The Ten Rings Terrorist group was obviously a key player in Iron Man, and that one Ten Rings agent (which by the way, he's only credited as such in the credits, there's virtually nothing on screen to tell the audience that he's an evil terrorist connected with The Ten Rings) got Ivan into the Monaco race. As it stands now, The Ten Rings was a nice little reference in Iron Man and stands as their own, separate story. For all we know, they're still going to either hint at or have The Ten Rings/Mandarin in Iron Man 3 to some extent. Or they may not. Who knows? It's all speculation at this point.
There's a simple solution to all this mess: Don't mention his fucking name, The name Iron Monger was said exactly once in Iron Man and as an off-hand remark unrelated to the character, Neither Whiplash nor Crimson Dynamo were mentioned in IM2, so why the BLUE HELL they have to mention The Mandarin? Take away his name and he's a scheming Chessmaster like countless others, especially since Ben Kingsley isn't even chinese to begin with. So they'll waste the Iron Man's greatest enemy, his arch-enemy might I add, his goddamn Nemesis, his JOKER, because of some moronic controversy [that makes very little sense, may I add]? What's next? Vetoing the Joker to not offend clowns? Omitting Doctor Doom to not offend romani? Seriously people. What. This is the greatest bullshit I've ever heard since people complaining about Sao Feng of POTC being racist.
