Hello all TFW2005'ers. Quick intro of myself: long time member, second time poster. I'd like to share some of my fan art with the TF community. I picked Optimus Primal as my first project. C&C most welcome. Also I seek help in deciding with character to pick next (choosing from the cast of episode 1&2 only). Enjoy
beauttiful... just looking at the way you designed the fur. Just with you robot mode picture I can picture him overlooking a cliff with his fur blowing in the wind. Can't wait to see more. As for who you should do next? My favourtie BW characters has always been Dinobot, but I think seeing another fur covered character like Tigatron would be awesome as you seem to design the fur amazingly!
*Gets up from chair, crawls under desk and pick up lower jaw.* Amazing work! Makes me wonder what Beast Wars would look like with today's graphics. I mean the fur looks so realistic!
Wow! That's pretty awesome. It's kinda weird though. Nothing bad, it's just that I'm used to seeing a 3D version of him with a fuzzy texture, rather than actual fuzz. Get what I mean? xD I honestly don't know if I can critique this without starting with "It's" and ending with "awesome". Great job.
I'd love to see Megatron, Waspinator, Dinobot, Cheetor, Rhinox, and Rattrap. But mostly Dinobot, Waspinator, and Rattrap.
Thanks everyone, models were done in XSI (softimage - the same software BW tv show was first made in) then detailed in Mudbox and fur+render in Maya. @Adamczuk: That's exactly the same reason I wanted to try and remake the characters with todays CGI. The tech has moved so far in the last 15+ yrs, so its fantastic to revisit the designs and push the envelope a bit. @Jetstreamx: I totally get what you mean about the fuzzy texture. Once I got a good reference of him from the show I really had to figure out how to make the fur work while not going off-design. Luckily the original toy is a big help So the votes now stand at 2 Dinobot, 1 Waspinator and 1 Rattrap. I have a strong feeling Dinobot is going to win this vote, but lets give it a little while longer.
Fantastic job! Great to see another XSI user. The robot parts are nicely modeled. The fur looks so good and real that it makes the robot parts too colorful. Could be the lighting or the texturing. Not sure if you can darken those parts up to make it look even more realistic. Great Job over all regardless.
Oh for the love of primus Hasbro, MP this. Dinobot would be cool, but I think Tarantulas would be even cooler to see.
Thanks for all the support guys! I am definitely looking forward to doing all the characters one by one, but it's a time taking process. Looks very very likely that d-bot will be next in line so I need to dig out the toy, do some research and then move ahead. @grimmlock: it is good to meet a fellow xsi-bot, i'd love to see some of your work in 3D. Your totally right about the contrast in colour, partly the lights and majorly due to the lack of metallic texture. I only used the metallic shader, somehow I wasn't too sure what to do with some of the bits, because neither the toy or tv-show really did any detailing on those parts. I guess using some of the techniques they used for 'Fall/War of/for Cybertron' would help with the bot parts. Thanks for the c&c
What took you so long to post this??? Kidding..but so glad you finally posted your art here!! That's one heck of a 2nd post!! I've seen other attempts at Furry Optimus Primal..but yours is the best all around, hands down!! Amazing and dangerously life like. As for others, no bot else is as fuzzy as Optimus, but Cheetor would be interesting with his fur. I like the suggestions for Dinobot as well.
Hi everyone, thanks so much for the support. Here is the beast mode of Dinobot. Now moving on to the robot mode. The Dinobot pattern is a bit subdued, but that's partly due to the lighting and angle. Enjoy and as always c&c welcome! EDIT: Updated image moved to page 3.
