It still bugs me that the CGI model cheated and moved the large wheels to his upper back. But I guess so that he could sit down convincingly. But the hub shields he used in Aftermath have no excuse. (Why couldn’t the toy do that grrr)

Just wait for a Generations TM Rattrap in about 10 years. The hollow chest cavity will have room to store a folded up gun, the shields will come off and the backpack will spin up.

B-b-but I don’t wanna wait ten whole years! Whahaha! :cry

Joking aside I seriously wish we had a mainline BW toyline like Studio Series.

Some Generations reinterpretations are fine by me, so long as they don't have a silly gimmick.

Give them a coat of Pledge floor polish. That should tighten them up nicely.

If the knees were ball joints that'd be no problem. But the knees are held together by a pin, and I really don't wanna remove the pins.

It actually works for pins too! That stuff is pure magic! It's thin enough to make its way deep into the pin joint and tighten it up.

How is TM Rattrap? Never had any interest in him before but I was looking at the 10th repaint recently and it looks pretty good.

After watching the Basics on Beast Wars Uprising by Chris Mcfreely I got an idea of repurposing POTP Optimal Optimus as that universe's Optimal Primal since I can see him making a mech suit that evokes Optimal Optimus and have the core Primal figure be his regular Cybertronian alt mode.

I wrote a little reaction rant in the UK thread and thought it might of interest here. YMMV, of course!

Optimal Optimus has that same feeling that the two wave one leaders, in that photos don't seem to do the deco justice. As soon as I had my hands on the box I could see that. Classy!
Then I opened the box and went "yeeesh!"

The engineering solutions are all very well thought out and the design team have obviously out some real effort in here. But the end result still feels a bit joyless. Like a stifled yawn. "No, I'm not bored. Carry on." None of the modes works all that well. The ape mode has a massive gaping hole in his back. Massive! The surfboard trick is cool, but not when it leaves your figure without a back. The inner bot is just an awful joke. A joke that hangs off the big lad's back. It should have been Starsaber, right? They really weren't expecting this. It feels like a bit of a disservice to all the Beast Wars fans that were excited. It'd almost have been kinder not to put Optimus Primal in the running.

pretty good. I never got him when he first came out honestly because he didn't have a blaster. But he is a pretty good figure

just be aware that his chrome is about the flakiest of all the Transmetal toys. I've seen ebay listings with MIB/MOC examples that have no chrome left.

I think the 10th anniversary might be better but I don't know if its because they changed anything or if its just 10 years newer.

The chrome seems to be holding up just fine on my Walmart rattrap/transmetal packrat

Not really surprised the new Optimal is disappointing. Just from the various pics alone he looked disappointing. But you managed to make him look cool in your first shot. But I agree, they weren't expecting him to win the vote and it shows.

Transmetal Rattrap is one of my favorite figures from the Transmetals line. The backpack doesn't rotate like in the show, but he's still a lot of fun.

I'd go with the 10th Anniversary version as the chrome isn't prone to flaking.

Eh, I'd rather a while BW toyline than one or two figures every five years.

Here's something tangentially related to BW that I just spent way too much on -- unreleased Robot Heroes Jetstorm prototype:

Oh dear, that is a shame but not a huge surprise. From the first photos of the figure it looked like a lukewarm clumsy effort to force Primal into the 'Evolutions' format. The result of which is a sort of 'Jack of all trades master of none' solution. As you confirm none of the modes work that well and yeah maybe they never expected or wanted Primal to win poll. Starsaber certainly would be better suited to the format of 2/3 figures in one. It's a shame and felt like a real missed opportunity.
