Got Blast Punch Optimus Primal from Beast Machines, but the hideous orange and yellow color scheme just wasn't doing it for me. Definitely one of the reasons this guy gets no love! These quick photos show a work in progress as I rarely, if ever, consider my customs "done". I tend to go back and add or redo parts over time. In this case, I've since done a lot of touching up, and I'm considering starting over on a lot of parts including the robot mode head and face. I think I'll change the gray from the beast mode's face and chest to a sort of tan color to better match the CGI. I still have to add the speckled white to the shoulders too.

I started with a Krylon Fusion basecoat which I really ended up not liking as it still felt a bit tacky even weeks after drying. I usually do basecoats/primers by hand but thought I'd try spray paint to save time. Had to redo a lot of it by brushing on Games Workshop Chaos Black which has never failed me. No more short cuts for me!

That sickly looking salmon color on the 'bot thumbs and abs was custom mixed as was the yellowish chest. The monkey gauntlets are Model Masters Brass, the fur is Model Masters Rust with a custom mixed gray, and the boots are gray with something lightly drybrushed over them, but I can't quite remember what it was...maybe GW Boltgun Metal and a little MM Brass?

    Apologies for the large pics.

I really wish they had done an anniversary set like they did for Beast Wars and they could have repainted everyone show accurate. Most the molds were good, but the colors where just whack.

Thanks for the kind words everybody. It really is a cool toy and surprisingly show-accurate, but the original color scheme is so off-putting that most people overlook it. It even has some cool details sculpted under the translucent orange which you can't really notice until it's in hand. Thanks again for the comments. I'd love to do more of the characters from the show. Silverbolt could really use a new paint job so he doesn't look like a guy in a mutated chicken suit. At least Takara got it mostly right with their Beast Wars Returns line.

A vast improvement! Always good to see Beast Machines get some love!

If you're looking to redo the whole cast, the best version of Nightscream is the McDonald's Happy Meal toy. It's even in scale!

    Thank you!

Yeah, it's disappointing that the sizes of the characters are all over the place.

Those were some of the worst figures Hasbro put out. You made this one look so much better.

Hasbro, take some notes and redo BM Optimus Primal. This version really shows how lazy Hasbro was during the BM series.

During the toy and show development, something changed, or Hasbro should have had more control over the animation so it matched the toy.
Nice job on your custom. Do a search for posts, by me, and you will find my set of Beast machine characters. The toys didn't match the show well, at all, but that gives us customizers something to do.

Thanks for the thread bump :thumbs2:

I think they're underrated, largely due to the terrible decos. Thanks!

    I appreciate that. Thanks.

Thank you, and great job on yours. Just looked through your Photobucket. I can't believe how well Animated Swoop works as BM Silverbolt. I recently got Silverbolt for $0.99 and can't wait to get to work on him.

Thank you! Go for it! I'd love to see your take.
