With the huge sale on 3rd party items I as some of the rest of you got a little concerned. I sent BBTS Customer service an email and just recieved a reply. The response I recieved was less than desired and has me starting to worry. Thought I would share with you all:

    Original Email:

    Hello,
As a frequent buyer on your site I noticed and took advantage of the awesome clearance sale you are having, however I am concerned. Are you going to stop carrying 3rd Part Transformers Items due to pressure from Hasbro? I think a bunch of the TF Fandom is worried about this as well. Thanks for whatever you can tell me.

If anything they should dump the official product and go with 3rd party stuff. You can get official stuff anywhere.

I wonder which one makes them more money.

That's actually a pretty interesting way of looking at it.

IIRC, According to Venkstra, one of his acquaintances emailed Joel Bobbit directly, and Joel said it was because of overstock.

So i'm not sure what to believe.

Indeed. But even if they ditched Hasbro altogether, they're still a potentially easy target for Hasbro, regardless of if Hasbro are successful or not WRT legal action, do BBTS need the hassle?

Sounds pretty much like a standard email reply. Can't really read anything into it other than that a customer has a concern, submitted an email and BBTS are going to look into it.

When you add in the ongoing physical expansion of the BBTS warehouse, I can see where it would be cheaper to mark down a bunch of over stock than to pay employees to move it all around once the expanded warehouse is completed.

well, last week when the sales started, their response was "we have no plans". And now the response is "we have no plans but are looking into it". Do you guys see the new "information" that's being released? Now they are adding "we are looking into it".

I'd have to think it would save them money... just think of the amount of warehouse space freed up by getting rid of the multiple Bumblebees

Hasbro's leverage is pretty much ensuring that BBTS cannot carry official product. Therefore, if they *choose* not to carry official product that pretty much means Hasbro has no leverage on them (assuming the third party stuff doesn't infringe on IP according to copyright law).

As for making money for them... Well, that's a different question. If BBTS is reduced to having a sale to sell overstock, that would seem to indicate that most third party toys (at least the ones on sale) *aren't* making them more money...

I tried to sell a few items to them a couple weeks ago, and dennis of the vintage department told me they were on a loose modern toy buying freeze because of overstock. So the overstock part seems truthful.

I remember hearing in the past that other stores that sold 3rd party/KO stuff were told by Hasbro that they either stop selling the other stuff or they would no longer get official product supplied.

I don't know if that's all Hasbro can threaten but it seems like a no-brainer to me.
