Here ya go folks, two of my humble entries into the Charity Event!

Both started life as an Animated Activators Bumblebee. I included the digibash of their heads here, enjoy. The extra large hand for each came from Animated Soundwave, who in turn is also upgrading to Snarl hands for another custom.

Got in a LOT of masking experience on these two, and i had a great time with them. I left in the sirens, as they are the activator buttons.

MUDFLAP
Mudflap had stylish round headlights, so at the suggestion of Wheeljack and Alphamagnus, threw in some googly eyes for headlights. if you shake him, you can still hear the googly. i first painted the headlights a very light blue, then a spritz of white. this gives the headlights that "lit up, but blue tinge" look you see on some of the fancier headlights out there. Plus, i think he sported those in the movie.

The secondary color is a sparkly silver, which i think fits a trendy mold like this one.

In bot mode, i obscured his original mouth, cut off the horns, and added a piece from a lego Dragonverse set (again, at Alphamagnus' suggestion). it's a little headlight piece for legs. i cut it in half, leaving a big and small eyepiece. this would do nice for the odd looking eyes the twins sported. Tiny bits of styrene made for the dog ears he had, and i made some extra horizontal clearance for the head's new shape.

I followed the paint job with a future finish spritz, but honestly i don't think it made much of a difference. this is my first time using it though, so who knows.

IMPORTANT - tuck Mudflap's head down when transforming and you are in the clear!

SKIDS
I did 'Flap first, so Skids came together quicker, and with less trial and error. The original headlights more closely matched Skids' ROTF incarnation, so i let them stay. He's a little easier to flipform too. Strips of styrene formed his teeth. I let him keep the horns as Animated versions of his pointy ears. His green is darker than the original, but i was just having NO luck finding that green. Alphamagnus is graciously slapping a decal on the side for me.


Both of them feature the opposite side schtick on their hands and the eyes. Halfway through their progress i saw this interesting mod to make the arms less apey on that mold, but these guys were weirdly shaped in the movie so i let it stay. Mudflap is a little stiffer to transform, but both do so with little difficulty, and are quite poseable. Due to keeping the inner arms and thighs without new color, just about every joint has no painted parts rubbing against each other, which lengthens the lifespan of these two figures.

pretty cool. they both look like they could use a little better base coat (original plastic shows) and the eyes kinda just look "thrown on"...without the side-by-side reference, someone might get confused on what you were trying to achieve with the eyes. maybe match the colors a little better (I think even Krylon stocks a lime green pretty close to Skids)

 

i tried to paint the "sides" of the eyes to match the head color, and it looked like crap. There are 3 greens available with Krylon Fusion; Hunter Green, Spring Grass, and Ivy Leaf. I did seriously consider Ivy Leaf, but it just kinda looked like a booger - the green leaned a little too much into a brown. Hunter Green was obviously way off. Honestly, none of em were as lime as I wanted. Unless you saw a color besides those three.

as for the original plastic showing through - guilty as charged. Might just be a hallmark of my paint experience... each of these got multiple layers as i would catch spots i missed. I didn't want to get too thick.

do you only rattle can? if not, why not custom mix up some green?

even if only using rattle cans; Testors makes a great Lacquer green which would have worked well:"

 

That first green you just listed looks great! if i ever hit this project again, i would definitely use it.

 

they are great paints too. VERY shiny, if you like shiny.

FR - for something like this, i definitely would like shiny.

BB - i almost skipped them and put Snarl hands in, instead, but they were just TOO big. looked cool in bot mode, nowhere to fit em in alt mode.

 

Dude, i wish i could've joined in on this project, all these customs from it are just epic. I like Skids' green a lot, actually, if only he didn't look so much like Tap-Out in car mode...  

Mudflap...Googly eyes for headlights i would've never thought of. Nice job on these two MP.  

 

save for some last minute black accents, he looked even more like tap-out than he does now. thanks for the good words!
