So, we've heard all about Waspinator winning the fan's choice slot, but we didn't hear anything about the rest of the ceremony.

Did Bay do a speech or say something?

So far all we've heard is that a few attendees didn't even bother clapping or reacting to Bay's induction. That in itself is disgraceful.

Michael Bay gave a very nice speech, Steven Spielberg also sent a video for his acceptance. It was a very nicely put together night, Bay was fantastic and the fact some among the audience could not honour all the good he did for the franchise was truly disgraceful.

WOW! While I agree that is was disrespectuful. and even given my dislike for the movies I can't say I would have followed suite.... he's not the President, he is not DESERVING of addoration. given how bad some people could have reacted I think this was pretty best case scenario.

i have a question about this.

to what degree did some of the attendees misbehave. i mean are we talking more than a fifth not clapping? was it a visible shunning?

Of course he fucking is. He made the movies. Transformers would be dead and gone now were it not for those.

Love his movies or hate them, he's done amazing things for this brand.

There's no adoration in simply welcoming somebody onstage by clapping. That's called proper etiquette. :)

The fact that some people would let their childish feelings about how they feel about the movie rule their behaviour in welcoming somebody is utter disgraceful.

I would even clap for the guy that came up with Kiss Players. Why? Like it or not, these people did hard work.

You are right though..at least no fights broke out or anything. Sheeshhh.

I think that's bullshit. Bay brought money and name recognition to the brand, sure. He didn't say it from some apocalypse. Let's keep the hyperbole out of this.

There are people that genuinely didn't like the way Bay directed, and genuinely didn't like the movies. Why should they be called disgraceful then? Hypothetically, if I don't agree with the president, I don't clap for him. Michael Bay's just a movie director at a convention. Put that into perspective.

And like was already said, it could have been handled a lot worse. You'd think there'd be a mutual respect for people being civil; people not clapping is no reason to bitch.

Seriously, how dare they not clap!

I'd clap. But then I'm polite. I'd probably not smile while I did it, but I'd still slap hand against hand for a little bit.
I doubt that. Maybe not as well known to the general populance as it is now, but dead and gone? Unlikely.

Sick. You're right, there is no adoration, which is *why* they didn't clap.

Really, because where was Transformers going? Dubs of awful anime and toys that barely changed year to year. I'd say it's entirely possible the franchise could be dead or dying by now had nothing come along to bring in new interest.

It's disrespectful for the people who organized it, and to somebody who took his time to go to a convention. The part of the President's job is public speaking, but Bay was under no obligation to take time out of his life to see the fans. He still came, and the fact that the fans couldn't even be bothered to applause at his efforts or the efforst of those who arranged the whole ordeal is disgraceful.

Wether it could be worse or not isn't the point. It's not the point of being disrespectful to Bay, but to the people who went out of their way to organize this whole thing.

THIS is what I take issue with, come to think of it, it's not even so much that it's Michael bay. Doesn't matter who it was.

Welcoming a guest through clapping is not adoration, it's etiquette.

Which, like I said, is no excuse to not welcome the man. You don't have to clap as if your life depended on it and go 'whooo', and you're not saying that you agree with somebody if you give him a welcome clap.

It is disgraceful. I'm perfectly fine with people outright hating the movies he made. I'm perfectly fine with people not liking Bay getting into Hasbro's Hall of Fame, even though I disagree with that.

I don't think TF would be dead without Bay, and that he somehow saved it - but if he did or didn't is not important for discussing what happened here. It's about a guest not being given a normal welcome by some people who seem to be too immature to handle their dislike in a proper way.

Wow so not clapping is just so disrespectful. Throwing a shoe at some one, attempting to shout them down while they are making their acceptance speech, or making such a scene that you have to be escorted out by security, now that would be disrespectful.

Not clapping seems like a pretty darn civilized method of protest.

This doesn't surprise me in the least, having seen the way some members of this fandom have reacted to these movies and Bay in particular over the past 4 or so years.

It's pathetic behavior, but not surprising.

people should be polite though. Take the higher ground if you're not a fan. Not being civil and welcoming them on stage makes you look like an ass, not him. Be the bigger man.
