    Plot Summary:

Hawaii. An airplane is caught in a storm and crash-lands, killing everyone inside it, but a little boy named Alex, who is adopted by his father's best friend, US Navy Lieutenant Hopper.

15 years later. Alex (Taylor Kitsch) and his adoptive brother Stone (Alexander Skarsgaard) have joined the Navy following their parents death. Alex is also engaged to physical therapist Samantha (Brooklyn Decker), daughter of Admiral Shane (Liam Neeson), who is less than thrilled with his daughter's relationship with the thrill-seeking Alex.

In the Anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attacks, American and Japanese Navy engage in joint fleet exercises, where Alex, Stone and Admiral Shane meet Japanese Captain Yugi Nagata (Tadanobu Asano). Meanwhile, six meteors enter Earth's atmosphere coming from Space. Five land on Hawaiian seas. One crash-lands in Hong Kong and destroys all of it. The Chinese Government mistakes this for an American and readies a nuclear response. World War III looms.

The meteors are vehicles used by the Regents, Alien creatures that communicate by touch and have come to drain Earth's water reserves. They block all communication between countries with a jamming device and create a umpenetrable barrier of water and lightning clouds arround Hawaii. They deploy war ships - The Stingers - to destroy the three Navy destroyers and the one Aircraft Carrier that have "breached" their perimeter while foot soldiers - The Thugs, led by the Commander - start creating a communications tower in Ohannu, protected by war machines - The Shredders - that only kill a target if if represents a threat. Their objective is to call forth an armada and drain Earth of all its water, that'll be taken to their desert-like planet that happens to be dying.

The Regents launch an attack against the destroyer where Stone is, killing him. Alex, infuriated, agrees to join Admiral Shane and Captain Nagada to take down the Regents' flagship in a series of war games. Meanwhile, in Ohannu, Sam joins Cal (Hamish Linkater), a soldier that was crippled in battle and had his old legs replaced by new bionic ones, to prevent the Regents from completing their communications tower while also trying to prevent the Chinese from launching a full-scale attack against the wrong country. Sam also happens to be pregnant with Alex's child and must protect herself and her unborn child while in the battlefield.

Alex's team includes tough-as-nails communications officer Raikes (Rihanna); hulking Hawaiian decodification specialist Beast (John Tui); Technician and computer programmer Ordy (Jesse Plemons) and Nagata's right-hand man Hiroki (Joji Yoshida).

I'm assuming this a straight-to-TV "SyFy" (ugh) production? Sounds like one.

That sounds like a bunch of ideas thrown together like the writer was having a stream of thought.

"Oh, we need it to be real world and edgy. And, and we need a romance sub plot. Ah, but we need a plot trigger? An accidental friendly fire incident? No, how about a meteor strike? And World War III! And aliens!"

The fact that plot is absolutely rediculous aside (the whole "need water for their desert planet" thing seems to try and make the aliens not seem like complete dickwads hellbent on recreating their version of War of the Worlds, but why couldn't they have gotten the water from Titan? Nobody lives there and it's covered in water), I'm confused as to why the accidently-in-the-war-zone fleet is only made up of an aircraft carrier and three destroyers.

I mean, I can understand why they had to write out the sub (the aliens seem incabable of hitting anything underwater I'm guessing), but for a movie based on a game called "Battleship", I'd expect for there to be an actual goddamn battleship kicking some alien ass. And where's the PT boat? Yeah, it technically is the easiest to sink with only two pegs, but it's also the HARDEST SHIP TO SINK IN THE GAME because it's so small.

Overall, I'm actually eager to see this film...completley bomb at the box office. I'm still confused as to HOW there's $200 million put into this film that sounds even worse that ROTF's plot.
