Back in 2007, when Transformers came out, one important place in the movie was Hoover Dam. Who else thought there would be a battle between Optimus Prime and Megatron on top of the dam, as a homage to G1? Wouldn't that have been cool?

It would've of made sense in the long run like the Autobots somehow still being a secret in ROTF, there would be damage done but it wouldn't be in a populated city taking away the "Robots in Disguise" and again all those conspiracies in ROTF would be kind of legitimate.

No, it's too blatant of a homage.

Should have happened in the first film, a quick battle between Optimus and Megs allowing Sam and bumblebee to escape to the city

I disagree. Not everyone is familiar with G1.

I think it's pretty much what everyone was expecting walking into TF07, as opposed to the Mission City fight.

That actually would've been really cool, and as jackgaughan already pointed out, a way better way to have kept the whole battle a secret. Or at least, more of a secret than "we destroyed MIssion City, but don't worry, no one saw it".

Honestly, this is the most accurate way to sum up so many complaints from movie-lovers about "why didn't they do X?". Would've. Should've. Could've. Didn't. If they did one thing, they wouldn't have done another. You can't have everything.
