I'm thinking of taking up Baseball as a hobby or even more.

I have the bat, mitt and my dad's getting the ball(previous one was chucked out)
It's pretty much the only sport I enjoy.
    Does anybody here recommend it?

Absolutely, it's fun to play.....and more a mental challenge than anything. I recommend more than one baseball though, and finding a group of people to play with. You'll not find much fun with it otherwise.

    What got you interested?

Seeing it on tv and how much running was in it and how big of a sport it was in america, then I found out it was actually played in the UK too so I practiced with my baseball set and got immediately
    hooked.

    Still figuring out the rules.

IF I get any good I might try out for my city's Junior Baseball Team.

I was terrible as a kid, but I enjoy watching The Phillies. I was going to ask how many people play in the UK, that's cool!

My town only has two teams.

    Diamond Devils and the Eagles.

I might sign up for the Diamond Devils.

First, I must practice for....probably a few weeks.

It's the most boring sport ever to watch but it's a hell of a lot of fun to play!

the fan participation aspect at the ballpark is what keeps it from becoming boring. i admit i had trouble with the scorecards (the one where you mark numbered positions and things.)
but if you have an analytical mind, the stats are fascinating.

My grandfather was an ump locally for about 20 years, my mother played softball with her company's team and i volunteered at charity tournaments during the 90s.

i am terrible at playing baseball, but i give respect to the skill involved to nail a 98 mph heater and send it where you want it to go.

just to throw in trivia- did ya know that you can pitch a no hitter and still lose a game?
that's the kind of things that make Baseball interesting to me.
    have fun!

Well hell, that's a much cooler name than the Eagles. And I should know, that's the name of our local football (and not the cool football) team in Philadelphia.

Unpopular view locally, but I hate that team.

Anyway, good luck on the Diamond Devils!

That's awesome, I didn't realize there were actual teams in the UK. Kinda makes me wonder what it would be like to coach a team over there and try to invigorate the sport I love overseas.

I commend you, sir, and wish you well in your hardball endeavours. If you need to know something or having trouble understanding something about the sport, feel free to ask it. I'm sure there's enough baseball knowledge on here to help you out.

I was great when I played but stopped when things got way to busy. Met my best friend at baseball when we were four. Definitely give it a shot.

just keep in mind, if a game doesn't have at least one fight over an "iffy" out, your clothes are still clean by the end, and you ain't chewing gum or (god forbid) tobacco...
    you ain't doing it right.

    lol.

hope you get a lot out of playing the game.
