    This isn't a bullshit auction. -___-

Here's why. I'm from around L.A. and Barricade looks a lot like the LAPD police cars. Why? Because he was modeled after them! His slogan: To punish and enslave comes from the LAPD slogan: To serve and protect!

He's simply selling the toy using a phrase to describe him. There are two versions of Barricade: the security car version and the LAPD police car version. He's just using different words to sell his item.

Well, from that pic it looks like a regular Barricade. I don't see anything saying LAPD on it.

    no he isn't. O__o

Nowhere in that auction does he say that that Barricade is any different from the original deluxe. He chooses his words poorly, but that doesn't make him guilty of anything other than just that. He's not saying that his Barricade is special, He describes it just as it is...WITH ITS LAPD PAINT STYLE.

Yeah but a variant would mean it's different from most of the Barricade's that are at retail. I think he's trying to make it seem liek something it's not because they are ALL painted that way it's not a variant.

Whatever...Why is it that people have to defend people they don't even know????

Be like everyone else when they see this: the guy doesn't have a clue, laugh at him and move on...No big deal!

Because you're giving this guy a bad rep he doesn't necessarily deserve! I'm sorry if I try to be a nicer person than half the people on this site.

    Okay, I'll give you that.

But variant does not just mean "something deviating from the norm", it also means "another version", which is what this is. Considering there are two versions of Barricade, you could call one the "LAPD variant" and the second the "security car variant". It simply means the figure is different than what is currently being found. And last I checked, the original deluxe is very scarce on shelves right now.

OK let's put this to rest once & for all:

#1 If there were a "LAPD" Variant it would be listed here

#2 Just because this car LOOKS like a Police Car that is in LA doesn't mean that it is it...(You could find HUNDREDS of cars around the country in different cities that you could claim was this car)

#3 Like I said before WHO CARES!

People post auctions in question for people to get an opinion on (And since some people on E-Bay don't know what they are selling and try and pull a scam) this is ALWAYS in question.

So people asked the question, it was answered end of story to keep this going would really be a waste of time.

If this TRULY was a HASBRO/TAKARA variant (Official) then people would KNOW and it would be posted on Hasbro's site and other TF sites.

Until things are OFFICIAL MOST people laugh at "Variants" like this....:banghead:

The only reason I even looked at it was because it said variant. So I think he is just trying to make a sell. Just my opinion.

I would hate to post my Barricade "LAPD variant" for sale on the junkion exchange. Can you imagine the flames I'd get?

A variant in collector-speak means a paint or art style that 'variates' from the normal release, and most of the time (not all the time) indicates rarity. This goes for comics, other action figures like Marvel Legends, statue/busts etc. etc.
This phrasing, intentional or not, is misleading to collectors.

It's like that seller on eBay a few years back whose auction was titled "For Sale PS2 Picture Below" and people wound up buying a photograph of a PS2 instead of the actual system. The seller said exactly what it was, but it was poor phrasing and a misleading statement. I'm not suggesting that this schmo is trying to be duplicitous, but the description should be revised.

I get your argument, and I think you're making a solid point.

But while 'variant' might have multiple meanings, use of the word within the context of toys implies a specific definition--a different version that is more rare than the 'standard' version.

"Transformers Barricade Deluxe w/Frenzy LAPD Variant!"

Exactly what the title says, which would lead you to believe its different than the original.
