The concept of Soundwave on a stick that was spotted during production reminded me a lot of Barricade when I saw it.

Maybe there will be more to Soundwave then meets the eye in TF3. The absence of his visor is hopefully due to his battle mode changes, probably switches on and off.

I've attached them pics for clarification. :dj

There's definitely some vague similarities, but nothing significant, imho.

The Movie Cons heads are based on the Decepticon insignia, which was probably based on the original Soundwave's head. So it sort of comes full circle.

Barricade was one of the early contenders for the role of Soundwave in the first movie IIRC. I mean c'mon, he shoots Frenzy out of his chest, does it get more Soundwavey than that?

In one of the first few drafts for the movie, Barricade was in fact Soundwave, from what I heard... tis' why he has a casseticon in the movie affiliated with him.
Therefore... they have similar design cues.

Plus, what Noideaforaname said is absolutley correct as well.

    Is Soundwave the new Sideways?

Barricade is dead, that said they do look kinda similar, I must admit. The eyes and head shape with the head-crests really do look similar.

Barricade AND Blackout were both originally conceived as Soundwave for the first movie so you'll notice similarities with Soundwave in both their faces.

Exactly. They even said that for TF1, they modelled Barricade's and Blackout's heads after the Decepticon symbol, and Soundwave's head was based off of it since G1.

You're right on Blackout, but not Barricade. The latter has always been a seperate character (initially called Brawl), but he took over Soundwave's role in the movie. Soundwave was originally meant to be a small Decepticon who infiltrates Airforce 1, get the Witwicky data, then escape and scan a humvee, mass size shifting into a much larger bot so he could go after Sam. In later drafts the Humvee was replaced by Barricade and Soundwave himself was meant to stay a small boombox, but that was changed when the fans got word of it, and the movie guys first renamed him into Soundbyte and then Frenzy.

I'm not sure where "Soundwave the helicopter" came in, though, but I think it was before the draft that had him as the humvee, because in that the helicopter was named Grimlock (another temporary name before he was renamed first into Incinerator, then Vortex, and finally Blackout).

Er, no... Barricade is not dead. He was originally going to be killed off in the 2007 movie, sure, but then Bay decided he wanted to keep Barricade for the sequel but for unknown reasons Barricade never appeared in ROTF. It was even stated somewhere that the original plan was to have Barricade fight Bumblebee in Egypt.

Currently, we have no official confirmation of Barricade's status... if he's truly dead or alive.

That were promptly ignored by his appearances in Reign of Starscream and Tales of the Fallen. Chris Mowry said he wasn't allowed to kill Barricade or make him into Sideways.

Orci said they did consider making Blackout Soundwave.

barricade still lives. He was last seen in Tales of the fallen issue 1 and fougth against bee, barricade later escaped. I hope Barricade returns as a carbon e7.

    Yup.
The heads / faces hav more in common than not.

Anothe board member saw Soundwave's face and said that he instantly recognized the old G1 soundwave. I sure as heck didn't see it. Still don't.

But I saw Barricade in it tho.

Maybe G1 Soundwave simliarity is not so evident on the pic I posted, but in this one you I can get a feel of the old SW, well at least I can.:dj
