Can you clear coat bare foil metal after it's applied? to cut down on chances of it being scratched up?

Well, I'd typed up a big response as to why I don't think a clear coat would do all that much good, but then I remembered I'd clear coated my TM Rattrap to keep the vac-metallized parts from chipping and figured that'd work on bare metal foil too. So, with that in mind, I'd say if you do clear coat it, use an acrylic spray and give it a few coats, just to make sure it stays put cuz otherwise it comes off even with minimal handling.

I've used clear acyrlic paint (hand brushed so I could put it on thicker) with decent results. However, Future floor polish(it's actually an acrylic clear coat) seemed to work alot better. It formed a tougher shell, and it leaves an increadibly glossy shine.
