It's about damn time we got a third Banjo-Kazooie game. But...why is there a Mario cameo there? I thought Nintendo and Microsoft were enemies. They'd never use the other's mascot character in their own games. Odd...

That Mario is a VEHICLE. It's player built.

Also, I have no idea what the fuck I just watched.

Rare has already worked on a couple of DS games, and they're releasing a Viva Pinata game sometime this year for the DS.

That Mario thing is going to start a war on some forums, I swear. :lol

TT, It's scrapheap challenge/A-team made by Rare with Banjo in the driving seat, please tell me you don't hate it.

This is the kind of thing gaming needs more of, mad ideas that are insanely fun once you've gotten your head around them.

It reminds me a lot of a short lived strategy game on PC called Tanktics, in that your mouse cursor was replaced with a little helicopter which had an electromagnet on it, you had to build your tanks by literally piling parts on top of each other and topping them off with satellite dishes so you could control them.

I only ever played the demo due to being poor when it was new but it was a really fun game concept and this completely blows it away.

That looks like it contains nothing about what made B and K such a fun game on the N64. It's like a driving game with some platforming. I'm sure it will refine itself more, but for now it doesn't look that fun.

I've read every preview I could find and from them I've gleaned that Rare wanted to change the standard formula of platform games, where you have set puzzles that are solved with specific abilities and thus it's the same for every player.

What they've done is to remove the characters physical abilities (flying, shooting eggs etc) and in their place they've given the player a whole load of tools to create their own abilities.
In other words, the vehicles you create are the abilities and you change them on the fly to suit what you are trying to achieve. By doing this it makes the game different for every single person that plays it.

So it is still an adventure game, you still have to travel to a location, find a puzzle and solve it. The tools are just different.

    That's how I see it anyway. :)

Well that actually does sound pretty good. I know Rare's been getting a lot of bad rap from Grabbed by Goulies, but they still make very good polished games. We;ll see how this turns out.

That's the spirit, positive attitude and all that. ;)

I haven't played Ghoulies yet, or Viva Pinata for that matter. I really should pick those up and give em a go.

I love the vehicle building thing. This looks like a lot of fun.

Sorry, but Rare haven't made a decent game in 10+ years so I'm gonna need more convincing than a video that makes me go "wtf mate"?

Fair point but weren't most of those games redeveloped from platform to platform during the N64-Gamecube switch over and Microsoft buyout.

Also, ten years is a bit of an exaggeration, I've been replaying Banjo Tooie and the title screen says 2001.

Edit, yet another hands on preview, this one from xbox360 fanboy

Like I said, they haven't made a decent game in 10 years.

Actually I lie, Jetpac: Refuelled was pretty great.
