So just before Botcon my cat Mr. High-Five Banjo Strings or Banjo for short got sick, really sick, like almost dead sick. Any way that cost be about $1000 in medication, tests and animal hospital stays. He turned it around just before I had to leave and I thought everything was cool. Jump to post Botcon, I get home and he has a couple bald spots on his head. One is slowly getting bigger and today I found a couple thinning spots around his neck. Here is picture of the top of his head taken today.

Now I have looked around some for cat’s losing there fir. All of them describe scaly skin, redness, scabbing, and the like. Banjo has none of these things; his skin is smooth and clean. The only things that didn’t describe skin problems where food allergies and excessive grooming. I haven’t seen him grooming himself more then normal, but then I don’t watch him all day either. The food allergy is a possibility because the vet gave me a bog a food I never fed him before when he was in the hospital. He likes it, eats it no prob. So I’m not going to give him any more for a while and see what happens.

Here is the question, any one have any experience with this? Any ideas or suggestions? I want to avoid taking him back to the vet if I can. Beside the balding he has been acting totally normal.

I dunno man, I'd take him back to the vet...I've never had a probalem with any of my cats past or present balding, but I'd assume that can't be a good thing. Hopefully everything turns out alright, poor little guy:(

One of our dogs had something sort of like that. It was some kind of mite, that all dogs have, but his imune system wasn't keeping it in check.

You should probably get Banjo to the vet, make sure he's okay.

strange. A few months ago, my cat started losing fur, with large bald spots. There was scabs though in each bald spot, and antibiotics cleaned it right up. Doesn't sound like that's your problem though. I have no clue, but hopefully Banjo will get well soon!

I think the vet is the right way to go. I doubt that grooming is the problem, but what do I know. Best wishes for you both.

My guys were stressed out by my absence, Panther to the point that he bit his sitter. Perhaps Banjo just missed you. See if it gets any worse before another trip to the vet.

Hopefully it is just stress, or a skin disorder of some sort. I have never had it happen to any of my cats. We'll all think happy thoughts for Banjo.
