    ;)

I know what you mean though. It's idiotic that they made the gun basically unremoveable when you attach it to his belt. Should have used a magnet or something like on Hulkbuster.

I think the figures look great though. Of course, I wouldn't mind buying more versions, especially if they are SHF.

Seems the hmr line is getting more and more expensive. Almost SOC pricing.

With similar Engineering. Xabungle appears to be a larger figure than the SOC. And is still a Transformer/combiner.

Yeah, it's going for around $200 now, retail was about $100, HLJ had a sale recently for just the figure without the exclusive stand for about $80.

I just posted a pic of mine in the Macross thread:

Looking forward to getting Milia and the missile effect parts.

Yeah, that's the greatest think about the HMR line...Enemy Mecha and soon supporting Mecha to go along with the Valks, all pretty much to scale. I do have a big ole 1/60 Roy in that shelf too though.

Received the Hi Metal VF-1A and 1J (it was briefly back in stock) from HLJ yesterday. Being my first HM purchases, I wasn't sure what to think about this line from the pictures and reviews, so I had to find out first hand (I'm just a sucker for the VF-1 in all it's variations).

Conclusion: Not awful. Overpriced, IMO, but that always seems to be the case with Macross toys. A nice selection of parts for a figure so diminutive. I may even grab a second 1A at some point. I'd like a MAx 1J and Roy 1S, of course, but not enough to pay more than their original retail prices.

These things rank well below the Yamato/Arcadia 1/60s (v1 and v2) and 1/48s....and even the OG chunky monkey 1/55s, but they are still fun in their own right - Cool toys to just "mess around with" on a whim.

I agree with your overall conclusion but will say they made some nice changes/advancements in transformation to get a slightly better Battroid mode look. Also, the level of detail is way beyond what we get on the much larger Yamato and Arcadia Valks. My conclusion: Collect them all!

The way I look at it, the prices go for everything you get in that box rather than just the figure. So while it might be no larger than a deluxe transformer, the figure is made of substantially more smaller parts and comes with 2 trays worth of optional parts, all small, smaller parts to tool also increasing the tooling costs.

    I rank them above Yamato V1 1/60 VF-1's...the V1 was quickly eclipsed by the 1/48 and V2 1/60(later Arcadia 1/60 VF-1).

Even so it's apples to oranges. HMR has better articulation and a smoother transformation(but parts swapping). Yamato V2 VF-1 1/60 has better detail and perfect transformation. The HMR makes sacrifices of convenience for a smaller size. I think bandai intended the HMR to be a collectors desk toy to fiddle with while Yamato/Arcadia aimed for a higher end VF-1 in a scale they dominated(1/60). Like the toy aimed at those who loved the 1/55 as a child but wanted a modern VF-1 toy that had perfect transformation.

I love both for different reasons.

Also agree but I think some of you are missing all the details in the HMRs. If you look at them in comparison the smaller HMR has more detail than the larger Arcadia figures in many areas.

    Dunno.

The HMR 1S valks are missing the prominent red dot detail on the head. There's an obvious depression there that's prolly meant to be painted easily and simply, but Bandai chose not to. :throw

On the other hand, they put some bizarro grey detail on the FP leg-pack of the Super-1J M&M's coz of prolly some misunderstood glare-effect on some animation scene cel, instead. :sly:

Also, the chest stripes detail on the 1J's are completely inconsistent with the 1Js that came with the GBP, the Hikaru 1J, and the Max 1J. I like to think that the upcoming Milia will be the only one that'll match a previous 1J stripe-detail.

    :poke

As such, the HMR enemy mecha, the Monster, and the non-Macross HMR Dougram are all pretty much awesome sauce, so there's at least them...
