Honestly, I didn't believe it until I heard the audio clips myself: RPGFan News - Super Robot Taisen K Musical Plagiarism (Lufia, Chrono Trigger) Admitted To Kennosuke Suemura, composer for Bandai Namco's Super Robot Wars K, has a reputation for stealing bits of other people's music, but this is the first time that a company has owned up to it. It's pretty horrific too just how much he stole from Chrono Tigger's Battle with Magus, but especially the track he stole almost note for note from Lufia. Listen to the audio clips for yourself. You might not hear it on the first one, but you can't miss it on the second. YouTube - ????K?????????BGM???????? Super Robot Wars K VS Chrono Trigger, Battle with Magus YouTube - ????K??????????BGM??????? Super Robot Wars K VS Lufia, The One Who Will Save the Earth Bandai Namco has issued an apology, but in truth, someone should have been checking the composer's work. I don't expect people to spot every last reused chord, but there's no way you could have missed the Lufia track.
starting at :50 on the first one, --> jaw dropped. Magus's battle BGM was one of my faves from CT so I picked it up pretty easy. Had to watch the second one in full, as I'm not too familiar with Lufia (palyed them like once each) dang, that's just wrong
oh man, how can you rip off chrono trigger and expect no one to notice? i figured that EVERYONE would recognize magus's music, and that's a pretty blatant ripoff. speaking of which, now that i've heard magus's music again, i think it's about time i start a new game in chrono trigger. yup. that's a great idea.
Banpresto are a subdivision of Bandai. That's like saying Bandai Namco does not make the Tales of series, but rather Namco Tales Studio does. They're both subsidiaries.
So, Bandai Namco; Bandai primarily, now owns the Super Robot Taisen/Wars franchise, scenarios, characters, etc.?
I know I posted this (the Lufia YouTube) somewhere and some point. I was super-pissed. Lufia deserves so much more love than it ever got, and anyone who has played it has come to love it (though the battle system is now prehistoric, but still cool, especially Lufia II ... the sequel that's really a prequel). The Chrono Trigger ripoff was really, REALLY low.
Holy shit @ 0:50 is right, how the hell did he think he could get away with that?! O_O *edit* I mean seriously, there is at least one entire generation of gamers who (to generalize) probably spent part of their childhood or teen years seeking out MIDIs of the Magus Fight music because CT is awesome. I am a Lufia noob so this is all I can really really get amped up about.
Who was the composer on SRW:OGs? I have the soundtrack and didn't hear anything too derivative, I'm wondering if it was either a different guy or I have to go through it again.
He made the Lufia song sound even cooler, but it's a blatant ripoff. EDIT: As for the song he stole from Lufia? It's played at the end of the second game (which is the prequel). It's the hero's final last-stand where he sacrifices himself to save the world. The song is titled, "For the Savior" and beyond the Sinistral battle theme and Fortress of Doom (The Last Duel) theme, it's the most recognized music from Lufia. It'd be like stealing the Crystal theme from Final Fantasy for us Lufia fans.
