Parent let kid drop out og High School to become a Guitar Hero You figure you would never, ever hear of a parent letting this kind of malarky happen, but alas...
If the kid never moves back in with his parents and never ever ever gets government assistance or complains about his lot in life from the choice he made.... then I'm okay with it.
Can't wait till this fad goes away.. My thoughts on Guitar Hero are the same as the South Park episode. So you can play a little plastic guitar... whoopty-freakin-doo
My brother went to school with a guy that dropped out during his senior year so he could play NBA Jams at the Pizza Hut all day. Last I heard he worked at the Burger King. Fast froward 30 years when he's homeless sitting on a park bench, "I use to be someone, I use to be... A GUITAR HERO!"
Tossing his education in the dumpster to try to make a living off winning Guitar Hero competitions... Wow..
OY! That's my shtick! Oh well. Anyway, this kid must be a total dumbass to even think that by dropping out of school and playing Guitar Hero will get you somewhere. It'll get him someplace...and that someplace is in the streets, begging people for money. He'll become another homeless person. See, this is why I don't play Guitar Hero. It's overrated, and it's a fad. It has to go away sometime.
... am I the only one who sees an increase in really, REALLY bad parenting these days? Or is it just because of the internet and increased news media that we HEAR more about it? Either or... way to go, folks. Don't let anyone else ruin your kid's future; do it for them. NOW, who wants to take bets that in a year or two either the parents or the kid are going to turn around and sue the game manufacturer?
no man, i'm seeing it too. a woman came in to Blockbuster the other day wanting to rent GTA4 for her nine and eleven year olds. I told her that it was totally inappropriate; full of swearing, sex, murder, theft, etc. her response was "oh well, they're gonna learn that and be exposed to that stuff anyway, might as well be me that does it to them". she does not get a passing grade in the school of life.
Those "parents" failed at parenting. If my kid tried to pull that crap they would have a choice: Drop out and move out on his own, and get a job, to support his Guitar hero "job"; or have it taken away till the little shit graduated and was an adult. Can you tell that this story angers me?
The furor over this on the internet today is...erm. A little overblown, to be frank. RTFA, kids. His parents did let him drop out of his school, but did not let him end his education. They got him tutors and he's homeschooled now. He still has homework to do. He's still in high school, he just doesn't go to the physical location of a school. While the parents do come off as a little spineless, let's face it: people with exceptional skills (athletes, actors, and yes, pro gamers) do this all the time. They have to travel for competitions to earn money, and attending a regular school is usually not a viable option versus the more flexible option of tutoring.
Well we all know where that fine young man is going to spend his later years...in a van down by the river!
