Well, I think there's two ways Nintendo could do this thing:
1) Since SONY blinked, they don't need to launch in Europe right away, and can focus on the US and Japan, which are the biggest markets.
2) Since SONY blinked, they could swoop in early and steal Sony's thunder. May even get some Euros on their side, since they're so used to being treated like shit by gaming companies.
Agreed. They almost can't lose. It's like Sony is giving them a free pass.
Hopefully they don't delay a Wii launch in Europe. That'd just be really shitty for the European gaming market.
What are you upset about? I thought Australia wouldn't touch anything with the Nintendo name on it anyway.
The fuck? That's fucking bullshit. Instead of getting a head start they're going to hope that people are just going to flat out refuse to buy a PS3 on pricing alone?
MY MIND BOGGLES.
NAwww dawg, we get it. On time with Europe.
My store usually doesnt.
TBH, i find the prospect of a delayed launch in Europe vaguely amusing.
After months of 'ohmigawd WII is the best thing ever becasue it costs less.', Nintendo's shiny veneer may be starting to fade.
They will. There's been no shortage of people trying to find reasons to write off
the PS3 simply because the price of new technology offends them.
it would be smarter for the big N to release it here this year so people can get it for christmas
Exactly. If the pricing rumour I heard is true they should get that sucker out the door ASAP and convince people not to buy PS3 on the quality of their product, not side by side pricing.
And just as many people desperate to own both, who will now have to put one or the other off. Staggering the launch would have been great for the consumer.
True, with them snapping at Sony's heels on the U.S. release, the may be opting to do likewise in Europe.
The problem is, the early adopter, the hardcore, who really float console launches don't give a flying shit about price. Yes they'll bitch and moan, but at the end of the day they'll *still* be first in line on launch day. Nintendo should just play the time advantage and get that installed userbase solidified way ahead of Sony.
It's back to Winter 2006
I've just heard an interesting rumour.
Argos are pissed at Nintendo for shafting them on the Gamecube (no idea what that's about, but they *did* have a lot of excess stock at one time), and simply won't stock it until March.
That's not the interesting part.
GAME have an exclusive on the first 400,000 units sent to the UK. So I'm gonna side on a pre-christmas launch. 400,000 in 5 months is a pretty good estimation given the expected price point despite the exclusivity.
That's a good amount to have hold of, and they'll sell well; GAME are going to clean up with that. Argos are cutting their nose off to spite their face, IMO.
If it's true, of course.
Whereas I feel the same way about Wii launching the same month as PS3 here, if that's true. Just doesn't make *any* sense to me at all.
isn't the europe announcement today?
by the looks of things they are announcing it in an hour's time
