I was just checking out amazon jp, to see if they had a Pla Rail Narita Express, they did and the price is alright so I decided to buy it for my son (we used N'EX while in Japan and the kid liked it).

When I proceeded to checkout (note; amazon jp actually doesn't ship outside Japan unless it's a book or CD/DVD, I use a proxy service), I noticed they now have an option to pay with AU$ since my credit card is issued here, and the bill was almost $30!

    WTF

    It's now AU$1 = JP¥58 according to XE - Universal Currency Converter

It was about 80yen 6 weeks ago, 75yen 3 weeks ago.
I came to Ausrtalia first time about 12 years ago, and even back then it was like 65 yen for 1 Aussie dollar.

I don't know how other currencies are faring, but if you are an Aussie shopping at HLJ or other places with yen price tags, watch out :(

    I hope it improves soon.

I feel your pain - I remember how it felt when I finally saw a dollar fall below 100 yen - but this has been a trend for some time now... It still doesn't feel right that the old divide-by-ten rule doesn't come close to working anymore.

I believe the Aussie dollar fell against some of the major currencies in the last week or so and the Yen has been increasing? For the latter, some of the owners of the import shops in my country were complaining (just yesterday!) as they found it expensive to import stuff from Japan.

The Yen is increasing against all currencies and Japan is feeling it already. Sony has lowered their projections for this winter and early next year on a multitude of electronic sectors because of the rise of the yen. And this was to be the year their next-gen console and TVs were to push into the profit too. If I didn't collect Konami's Busou Shinki figures, I probably wouldn't care too much, but I do collect Konami's Busou Shinki figures, so this bites.

That's a good name for a financial movie. Money Wars: Rise of the Yen.

Yeah, in fact some toy shop owners I know are cutting back on stock for the next few weeks. Some are even adopting a wait and see attitude!

The Australian dollar is falling, hard. Much worse than most currencies are. Has dropped from 95 US cents to 62 US cents within a few months.

I'm laying off using Rinkya to bid on things on Y!JA b/c of the decreasing US dollar to Yen. I'm waiting on one last game to come in before I have them ship everything, then I'm staying away until the forecast improves.

Yeah, I'm scaling back my imports. Not getting nearly as many dollars to the pound right now. Used to be $2 to £1, it's nearer to $3 to £2 now. Used to be like that a few years back, so I'm just glad the good lasted as long as it did.

Yeah, there was a time it was almost a dollar for a dollar, and a dollar for 100 yen. Not so long ago :(

I know! I still have to pay to my proxy, and they charge in Yen :(

I saw the headline the other day (Wednesday?) that the dollar hit a 15 year low against the yen.

Makes me wonder if Henkei Cyclonus is going to be surprisingly expensive now...

I'm feeling it too...but since I collect figma and the occasional PVC statue I can't help it, dammit. :(  I'll cut back a bit, and maybe I'll start buying from local stores now too since it costs about the same right now anyways.

These currency fluctuations have also upset some of my plans on some of my ebay purchases! Blah! :(
