Thought it was another good installment.

Now that Peter's found out that the Kingpin was behind it all, I'm eager to see what ass kickings Spidey will dish out as he makes his way to the top. I'm even more eager to see what he'll do to the fatman once he gets to him.

Also wondering if May pulls through. I'd think it'd be VERY interesting if she doesn't.

    Wait wait wait

When did she come back to life? The last I knew she died in Amazing Spiderman #400 after telling Peter she knew his secret. Seriously how'd the writers retcon her death

JESUS how much Spiderman stuff have I missed over the years?

I dunno. I've only started reading Amazing during Civil War. But she's still alive. Barely.

Yikes, you really didn't know they brought her back? Man, you're gonna hate this explanation...

So the May that died in the hospital wasn't *really* Aunt May, it was actually a gentically altered actress that Norman Osbourne had hired to pretend to be Aunt May and secretly poisoned (so she'd really died and all that). The *real* Aunt May had been kidnapped by Osbourne, though Spidey didn't know it. Peter eventually rescued the real Aunt May and everything went back to normal like none of it ever happened.

    Yeah...

The one that died earlier was an imposter in the employ of Norman Osborn if I remember correctly.

    Oh for christ's sake :rolleyes2

I've ALWAYS hated the retcon that the serum Norman took gave him healing abilities. And that he's been behind the scenes like that. And THAT has to be the worst retcon I've EVER heard in my life.

I mean Aunt May telling Peter she knew and was proud of him meant so much to him. But now it's meaningless

No worst retcon ever was making Gwen Stacey the mother of Norman's illegitimate children. I can't believe they desecrated Gwen's memory like that.

Dude..that was like..13 years ago. Approximately 87% of the characters in the Marvel U have died and come back in that time frame, some more than once.

The other 13% are presently dead and awaiting resurrection.

Of course, we're getting close to the revival of Harry if they really followed that :p

They already thought up how to resurrect Harry but thankfully they decided against it... On the other hand, it's what lead to the Norman Osborne retcon mess. So, yeah, take it all how you will.

God DAMN this issue rocked! The bit where Spidey breaks the guy's arms and starts ordering him to pick up his gun was badass. And one more thing...

    "Hello, Mr. Fisk"
Well hello, Mr. Parker. And what may I do for you?
"Just one thing, Mr, Fist. You can die"

    *dies*

I've pretty much given up on 616 Spider-Man. It's an utter mess, and even having Norman Osborn still alive is asanine, nevermind all the convulted things he's done.

Yep. So even though in that time frame every thing Gwen said indicated she only had eyes for Peter, and every thought balloon we saw of her indicated she was passionately in love with Peter, she secretly had an affair with Norman Osbourne.

And, when she went to Europe to mourn the death of her father she was not gone for a few weeks as it was clearly portrayed. Instead she was gone for months; long enough to carry and deliver Osbourne's twins, get her body back into hotness, then return to New York.
She still had to work out her issues over her father's death, but apparently leaving her infants behind and hiding the whole thing from Peter left no mental toll on her at all and she was still able to convince Peter that she loved only him.

So, Gwen is almost nothing to Peter now.
She never loved him as he loved her. All his repeated mournings on the bridge are now void. She was a fake.

What a horrible writing and editorial decision.

I always saw the deaths of Norman Osbourne and Gwen as key defining moments in Spider-man's life. They are as important as Spider-man's origin.

They brought back Norman. They reduced Gwen to some loose, deceitful vixen.
They have voided a huge part of the character that is Spider-man.

If they needed to screw with Peter in this fashion, why couldn't the mother be Gwen Stacy's clone? She is fair game for just about anything.

With writing and editorial decisions like this, I think we'll soon see Marvel have their own Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Is it too much to ask for some consistency? Is it too much too ask that Norman Osborn isn't behind EVERYTHING that happens in Peter's life? Is it too much to ask that new writers don't take a shit all over other writer's work? Is it really too much to ask that if a character's death had signifcance, that it isn't a clone or magically brought back to life?

It's only a comic book you know. For entertainment purposes only. Doesn't have to be rational.

Along those lines, is it too much to ask like the writers act like they actually care about the characters they are writing for?

Is it too much to want to read a book and care about the hero?
I don't feel like investing any time in the main continuity Spider-man because everything that happens to him is eventually undone.

    Ultimate Spider-man is good though.

Who said it should be rational?
We just said we want good stories.

If comic books were "rational" there would be no superheroes.
