Cops: Student uses sword to kill intruder - Crime & courts- msnbc.com
HxC, and cool but it's like a man died sure he was a serial robber but still I'm a little conflicted I definitely don't think the student should be charged.

It mostly just seems dumb to me. Confronting an unknown threat with a sword is asking to get shot.

But still, good on the guy for conducting a lil' preventive social maintenance.

He acted dumb by not waiting for the police to arrive and catch the burglar (which would happen every time in a perfect world). In the real world, the question is how much would it take for the police to arrive, maybe in the mean time the burglar would be gone. I know how police works in my country so I would have done the same thing as that guy. And he acted pretty smart by taking the sword with him.

More likely he's actually been taught how to use that sword.

But still, shit, guess he really wanted to keep that laptop.

Stay tuned folks. The powers that be are considering charges against the homeowner.
But then that's just Baltimore...good folk beware, criminals at work.

Defending your home against an unknown threat is fine in my book. Doing so with a sword proves that the intruder tried to get in close. Leave the guy alone.

And now, time to sharpen my sword. Right now, it's only good as a blunt object.

The fact that the guy has been robbed before and the fact that the robber just got out of jail two days prior to committing this act shows that "waiting for the police" doesn't always work out for the best. While it's the smartest thing to do in public situations where a guy holds up a store or robs a bank, if there's someone in your home you have every right and reason to defend it. Bravery and foolishness go hand in hand, so it was a dumb, brave thing to do. But it's something I'm sure many people in the same situation would have done.

Anyone who breaks into someone elses home deserves to be shot and killed. Or in this case stabbed and killed. Whatever gets the job done.

I don't agree with this. Beating the living shit out of them and apprehanding the burglar is fine, as well as killing the fucker if he attacks you, but killing him out of hand is pretty nuts IMO.

This type of thinking can only lead to more chances someone getting hurt in a burgulary. If the subject expecting hostilities while entering someone's home, they will come prepared.

What happened to leaving the jobs to the police?

Speaking of police, some can burst into your home without warning, what happens if you killed a cop? This old lady defended herself from a so called robber, (turned out it was the cops) and she got shot to death, because of misinformation.

I understand where your coming from, and it sounds reasonable I guess but you cant expect the police or any other authority figure to come to your rescue every time something bad happens.

Every one needs to be able to handle these things on theyr own.We cant get lazy and let the various authority types take care of us all the time.

If we cant take care of our selves then the man owns us.

the robber in question had been left to police time and time again until he violated the sanctity of the wrong man's home.

It sounds cool, but then again the guy could face charges. Sure, he was defending his home from a burglar, but still... there are more safer ways to defend yourself and your property that doesn't end up with you getting charges for assault, battery, and manslaughter.
