I used to trace stuff all the time when I was a kid. Still always looked like crap some how.

I think that the litho turned out beautifully, and charity = awesome.

its the Magneto fiasco all over again :p

    looks great tho
im not one to be picky
its tough even using photo references when you draw stuff like this. the people are so "in the eye of the public" that even subtle inconsistencies can wreck the likeness and the artist did well translating the photos

    plus, its charity.

Aaaaand everyone in this thread minus Josh missed the point entirely. You may want to read Mark's response in the Newsarama thread itself.

I have a particular dislikeof Greg Land's style, and adore Alex Ross's style. And I very much see where Mark is coming from.

Not to mention that IMO the fanboy mentality has no place in the realm of charity items. In that medium, you aren't paying for goods, you're donating to charity and receiving something as a 'thank you'.

Not to mention that it's not like he sat there putting a Photoshop filter over some pictures.

As much as I like to make fun of Greg Land and his sexfaces, I think that mentality's starting to become the "cool" thing to kneejerk with. :(  Which sucks because as I said before, while I think Greg Land's approach sucks, I really love Alex Ross's stuff.

read the response and my opinion stands.

charity/good deed notwithstanding, all dude did was superimpose the 3 pictures, changed the colors of the clothing bit. i appreciate capturing the likeness - not all artist are competent at it - but guys like adam hughes - with his star wars pinups - have shown you can do more than just capture someones likeness when tackling a subject in this medium.

again, its for charity, whos gonna complain? but as long as were discussing the merits of "tracers" here... (note the inverted commas)

i dig it...and as stated on newsarama, it wasnt traced, it was used as reference to be dead on accurate, and thats cool as hell....i hope this brings in some good money for whatever charity is getting the dough....
