So I was taking out the trash last night, and sitting next to the garbage cans is this old box with latches on the side and a handle on top. At first, I thought it was a portable record player.

I open it up, and there is a REALLY old sewing machine in it! It was in really good condition, all that was wrong with it needed a new drive belt. I plugged it in, and it works fine.

So I do a little research, and I find out it was made sometime in 1933! Not only that, but they sell on ebay and elsewhere from anywhere between $200 to $600! Really good shape, and it has all the attachments and junk too, but the case isn't original. I've already ordered a new belt, and as soon as I've cleaned and tested it, off to ebay it goes!

It's a Singer model 221 if anybody cares.

What's the best thing you've ever found in the trash?

Got me beat. Best thing I ever found was a 20" TV from the 70s. Worked fine, but I really just wanted it for the case. It was a retro sci-fi sphere on a stalk.

    Made a rad fish tank.

I found a 17" computer monitor that still worked once I adjusted the bias on the cathode.

That is a pretty neat find! I don't think I've found much in the trash but an old fish tank. :D

Ah, I've never found anything. On the ocassion that I do get near one of those giant trash bins, it's to put in something small like and plastic bottle that wouldn't require me actually looking in and it's usually very quick. You see, I try my best to stay away from trash bins...

Where will he find the child labor for that though? Their tiny hands are the key to the craftmanship...

I found a Le Corbusier style chair like this out by the dumpster of my old apartment complex. I was just taking out the trash and   Immediately grabbed it and took it upstairs. I love that style. I'd get a matching sofa but they're friggin' expensive. The chair alone is several hundred dollars.

I found an entertainment center at a Salvation Army bin once. It was in good shape, and was the right size and shape for me place, so I scooped it. Nothing worth a lot, but it was worth it to me.

Seamstress, no; good at finding rare shit in the garbage, yes. Apparently, this one is one of the very first to come out of the factory, making it extra rare for the condition it's in. I feel bad for whoever threw it out. They must not have the internet or something.

I grabbed it initially for my girlfriend, she has always wanted a sewing machine, but not bad enough to shell out $100+ for a new one. She still wants a new one, so I told her I'd buy her one with the money we make off selling this one, and hopefully have a nice chunk left over for myself to buy the MP-03 Starscream, ugly colors or no.

And I thought the lawnmower I found in the garbage when I was 12 was awesome. Somebody filled the gas tank with oil. I cleaned it up and it ran like a top!

I got a ColecoVision that someone left by the curb for the garbage. All I had to do was clean it, and it started working again. Along with the ColecoVision were two CV games (Donkey Kong and Popeye), an adaptor to play Atari 2600 games, several joysticks, and a huge fucking stack of 2600 games.

Dang, its extremely difficult to find anything good or of value in my country. Over here things are used until they are really un-usable!
