I got a new netbook for school and I'm wondering whether I should go with AVG or Avast, or if anyone has any other suggestions that I won't have to pay for. I use AVG on my desktop and it seems to be alright but I've heard good things about Avast. Anyone have any experience with it at all?

I'm using Avast! and I've never had any issue with it, though, I haven't used AVG in a while so i couldn't provide any comparison.

this past Jan my brother got my PC one of the worst viruses ever and AVG, Spybot, and Adaware couldnt get rid it. I was so close to reinstalling XP, but before doing so, Avast and Malwarebytes was recommend and they did the job.
So far Malwarebytes has picked up some viruses Avast hasnt, same has happen with Avst. I would recommend both.

Avast seems to have issues with my computer. I would say AVG, but having more then one isn't a bad idea. I would get Spybot to.

If you get AVG, either buy the cd or get the free one. I downloaded a licensed renewal and never got the license that was supposed to be emailed to me. Suffice to say I'm done buying shit from them.

AVG Free for me, never had any problems. And Malwarebytes is also a good idea.

Used both before. Still using AVG. Easy to use, easy to update.

Avast! (WHS Edition) bluescreened my Windows Home Server machine twice, (long story short) due to the insane and exceptional levels of disk I/O going on at the time. No other problems though.

    :lol

I'm finding AVG is removing any threat it thinks it finds.

I open Outlook and get a 'Threat removed' popup
I open IE, and same again.

Plus I am finding my system feels a bit bogged down with it.
Going to switch and try Avast.

AVG8 seems to be quite a huge memory hog. I unload it before I load up Flight Simulator and gain about 10-12 fps. Never had this problem with AVG7. I'm thinking of switching to Avast.

Yes, I've had a bit of a problem with false positives on AVG recently. It purged about 200 files relating to my RPG Maker XP projects, various test demos and the like. Never had a problem with it before, though I'll admit it is bogging my system down a bit. Might give Avast a shot when the free license asks for renewal next time.
