Hmm. They do have a point with him being kind of bad ass in The Departed. Still not sure about him though.

Titan from the new American Gladiators would be bad ass as cap.

For those that remember, he played Superman in Sandy Cholera's World's Finest fan film.

I love that the writer even points out how much skepticism there was surrounding Downey Jr, as Stark. I actually think DiCaprio would be alright as Captain America, he's got the Blonde golden boy looks, and he has beefed up for past roles, so it's not that big a stretch. And as much as I disliked Titanic, he's been good in other, better films. He can act, contrary to fanboy opinion.

    Not seeing that one.

But apparently I was in the minority who thought Robert Downey Jr. would make a perfect Tony Stark as soon as they announced it.

Actually, I don't remember much backlash at all to Downey being cast. Especially after the first pic was released of him as Stark.

The Dicraprio rumor is being discussed here, too. Should there be mergification?

Me either. But if there was a minority supporting the choice, I was in it. Absolutely perfect casting from the get-go, IMO.

I was amongst those who thought it was inspired casting right off the bat, but I do remember a lot of negative talk about him being too small, and not looking like Tony Stark. That did start to change when we first saw a pic of him looking like he'd stepped right out of an Iron Man comic.

The odds of getting a GOOD actor who will look as muscle bound as a CA illustration are slim to none. You cast a good actor first, and then work on the physique. Christian Bale didn't look anywhere near as buff as he did ib "Batman Begins" before being cast, he worked out to get where he needed to be physically.

Which should leave Leo right out, IMO.

    Pitt, however, would be great.

No no please god no...if you are gonna cast an actor to play a role like this...a few things are important....1 make sure he fits the bill and be built up a bit, 2 this guy is not an action star in my book. We need someone who knows what the hell he is doing. 3...he is not superhero material.

Now that Tom Jane is no longer the Punisher I could see him as Cap. BUT DiCrapio? Yeah I'll pass on that movie if it happens. Dude would have to put on like 2 feet and 60 pounds of muscle just to get started. He might do as the wimpy Steve Rogers before the serum. LOL!

For Thor I kinda like the guy who played Thor in The Return of the Incredible Hulk. That Thor cracked me up, especially the scene with Thor and McGee.

Well, even if they put Leo through the "300 training" I still don't think he would fit the bill. May as well put Gerard Butler, or Clive Owen. Then again, just because they are bored, they would probably put the Rock in there.

Totally agree about Jane. He would make a great Cap. I'd have a lot of issues with DiCaprio, not the least of which being his voice, which just sounds too whiney. He can act, but after seeing him in such contrasting roles, it's just not something I could probably suspend my disbelief with.

Okay, I no longer have anything against DiCaprio, but NO. Of course, I'm a bit biased. I've wanted Mark Valley for the role of Captain America for quite some time.

Not sure what to think of Brad Pitt and Triple H as Thor. The idea of Pro Wrestlers as Actors never really sat well with me (yes, I'm aware of the irony).

One thing's for sure, if they go with big-name actors for the solo films, it's just going to inflate the budget for The Avengers to astronomical proportions.

Dicaprio as Cap is not something I can see. Though I will say that I definitely could not see Downey as Stark but was completely wrong on that. Though off the top of my head, the only person I think of to play Cap would be Michael O'Hearn from American Gladiators fame and World's Finest.
