As much as I liked Avatar, I would have to say I like ROTF a lot better...

I liked ROTF better than Avatar as well.

i loved ROTF, but avatar is the greatest movie of all time (56 year old sci-fi freak of a dad agrees and he likes what pretty much all of us like)

ROTF was great because of Prime.....Avatar was great because of the director and story...

Avatar was truly a spectacular movie... ROTF should be proud it is mentioned with it

Avatar's story isn't anything new or interesting, I didn't see POCAHONTAS getting the same praise back in the day Disney released it, yet it had the same story without the silly names.

This doesn't surprise me in the slightest. But nothing surprises me after the New Moon stats came in.

You have to admit that ROTF is just a mindless popcorn film, although entertaining.

But seriously, Avatar is just too overrated. I know everyone keeps saying "It's Pochahontas with blue people", but that's because IT IS. But it's all because Cameron made it.

At this point, Cameron can just make a documentary on a sandwich and still get a high grossing award winning film.

Hell, I would be more surprised if it didn't beat out RotF.

Avatar is far from the greatest movie ever made (hell, I think District 9, released in the same year, is a much better movie over all) but I do think Avatar is a superior film to RotF, and it's good to see the box office stats reflect that.

Big congrats to Cameron... having your name attached to the two highest-grossing movies of all time is a damn impressive record for one lifetime.

Personally, though - never saw Titanic and don't plan to ever see Avatar. Just no interest.

I'm with you. I've had multiple invites to see Avatar, but it just doesn't appeal to me at all. And, I'll always root for Transformers, so I'm sorry to see it beat ROTF.

Well it is the Most Beautiful movie to come out ever, and half the people that went to see the Movie Probably dont even now who Cameron is. Transformers makes money because well Its Transformers, everyone knows Transformers, so saying people went to see Avatar because its Cameron, is the same reason why Transfomers makes money because it Transformers (hope that makes sense).

Avatar is a good film, but as has been pointed out, it isn't anything new. Not that ROTF was anything new either. I enjoyed them both, but ROTF is still superior in my opinion. As for Avatar making a hell of a lot of money, I am not surprised after the way it was plugged and hyped.
