Does anyone else think it's ridiculous that the Autobots rely U.S. C-17 aircraft to carry them around to places? They're TRANSFORMERS for God's sake, why don't they just scan aircraft? Or at least develop some sort of jet pack technology. I dunno, it just seems silly to me.

I found it a bit odd but I didn't think anything of it.

    They're just saving energy.

Because none of them are big enough to scan anything that flies. Not anything useful anyway...

Which is more ridiculous? Cargo planes flying in, dropping them off or giant robots flying through the air with jet-packs? Personally I think travelling by plane is pretty smart.

Because not all TFs have built in flight capabilities? If Bumblebee scanned an airplane, he probably still wouldn't be able to fly.

Besides, if they never flew by plane, how would we ever get a more epic intro for Prime in ROTF? :D

Because then whats the point of calling them autobots. They're called autobots because they transform into automobiles.

If they're all going to transform into planes we might as well call them aerobots.

I do still wish that one of Springer, Breakaway, or Silverbolt still actually made it into the film. Springer could have been transporting Lennox and his team into Chicago and when Starscream showed up, epic dog fight. :D

Alien robots relying on primitive technology for transport. Makes sense.

Pretty much all of the above posts should have a "THIS!" after them.

But the first thing that comes to my mind is efficiency. Think of it as carpooling but for Autobots. Yeah, my friends and I can all drive to the movie theatre in separate cars...or we could all car pool. Or public transit. What's more efficient for transporting 50+ people? 50 cars or a single bus?

Why bother having a dozen Autobots flying through the air when they can all just drive into the bunker of 1 or 2 C-17s and be done with it? The Autobot-military alliance is strong, this sort of makes sense.

Maybe none of them had structures compatible with flight capable vehicles? The only flight mode characters were Starscream (who had a really weird wedge body shape that would let him become a jet) Blackout/Grindor (who was unusally large, bigger then Prime and Megatron so he could become a copter) and Megatron when he had access to Cybertronian vehicle modes.

So you kind of need to luck out to be able to scan things that can fly. And non of the Autobots did. Only a few cons did, which was unlike G1 where all of them could fly in robot mode (mostly for plot convieince only so they could get to all locations first and kick of the scheme of the week. Otherwise only the jets really used their flight ablities offensively)

If Megatron could shift between flight/tank/truck. I'm sure they all can.

I think Starscream was the only Transformer we saw who could fly whilst in robot mode. I think Megatron could fly for short distances, or glide, but we never see him actually flying around in robot mode.

Megatron had a high tech cybertronian jet, which was unusually thin enough to fit his body type and still fly. Then when he was repaired he was fixed up into a tank, which could still fly even though it wasn't very aerodynamic again because it was a high tech Cybertron mode. Then when he couldn't salvage his original forms anymore he needed an earth mode, and was at the mercy of whatever human vehicle would fit his frame, which was a truck.

They can't just scan anything they want, it has to be something roughly their size, as seen when Jazz has to pass up the hummers for the sports car cause he's not big enough, or the Twins having to only turn into half of the ice cream truck, cause it was too big for one of them to become the whole truck.

He flys to Saturn. . . If that's not a long distance, I don't know what is.

You sure know your stuff :thumb  Hope for the best, expect the worst.
