Masterpiece Autobot X / Autobot Spike (new pics added 5.20)

Here's a project I finished up last week. Occasionally (in fact more often than I should) I need to step away from the commissions and work on particular projects/ideas which I've had for a long time.

If you don't know who Autobot X / Autobot Spike is, I recommend watching all of G1 over again. He's unmistakably one of the most random, obscure characters ever, and I remember his story/episode as being one of the best. I won't go into details, you'll have to watch it yourself to find out the rest.

Anyway, This custom was build from the random dead bodies of close to 100 other "junker" transformers, zoids, gundams, robotech, all sorts of stuff. He's the result of my "spring cleaning" of 14 boxes overflowing with random toys in this shop. Feel free to check him out, and see what you might recognize. Some parts were also scratch built with styrene, apoxy clay, wires, screws, bolts, resin, and on and on.

Here's a link to another thread for his "table" :
    http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/232617-autobot-x-table-add.html

So, the details/features on this guy (starting up top)...
    - Roughly 50 points of articulation and/or moving parts!
    - Head's 90& scratch built, using a Sigma 6 Joe face, refined and "chiseled" then building the rest around it with clay and styrene.
    - Eyes light up thanks to a small LED inside his head. Also harnessed in his head is the battery pack and switch on back. The batteries are easily accessible and replaceble.
    - Head sits on a ball joint.
    - Porsche shoulder on his right is cut and reshaped from a die cast model. The headlight lights up.
    - On his back are opening rocket packs. They swing open and the rocket/engine slides down and out.
    - In his chest are 2 sound chips. Both are triggered by small buttons on his back. The 1st sound chip plays a "transforming noise" the second does random blast/gun noises.
    - His upper right arm has a small door which opens to reveal gears inside.
    - His lower right arm has a small door also, which reveals a canon (shown later)
    - Hand is from MP Prime (man that hurt cutting him up for this, but the size was perfect)
    - Left upper arm "post thing" up top near his shoulder is on a hinge, allowing that arm to extend to any position (if it remained sticking straight up, it would collide with the shoulder)
    - Door on back right is from a second die cast model car, the mirror is real glass (what?)
    - Lower left arm has red laser light inside it, pressing the front of this forearm illuminated the canon's recessed areas, canon tip, and 2 small holes on the sides of the forearms.
    - Right leg bottom has working hydraulic.
    - He's over 11" tall
....more very cool things to come.

Please check out my site and or flickr account for lots more larger pics.

**Please see the Radicons Etiquette before making such comments. We're all peers here. ~Radicons Staff** You managed to take one of the most obscure G1 characters who wasn't even a character in most sense of the word and made him a one-of-a-kind Holy Grail. That pic with Sideswipe really sets in the scale!

Very slick! You can't even tell where some of the parts begin and other end. Only a few places you can catch but very fluid overall.

One of the coolest customs you've come up with.

    Fantastic work.

The Ron Perlman face works for this Frankenstein of a custom based on a Frankenstein of a character.

    Dig it!

very nice mike. only minor critque, I can see the devcon/glue that you used to make the parts. I kinda like it as it sort of works as autbotx is supposed to be rough and cobbled together. but I would have preferred more seamless connections. otherwise fantastic.

I actually left most of it, thinking it would represent how Sparkplug would have put this guy together, lots of welding and glue and stuff. You can see on the left lower leg, I actually added a bead of glue around some parts and highlighted w/ silver to give it a "welded" look.

Thanks everyone else too. It was very fun making this guy, hardly any real restrictions, just went all out and had a blast.

I don't remember him being so big? But I like it! Makes me want to watch G1 all over again.

Also it would be awesome to get a LED tutorial if you don't have one already.
