Two members and the crew of The Chaser's War on Everything (a frequently controversial comedy sketch/news satire show) were arrested today for breaching security at the Sydney APEC world leaders conference for their latest television stunt:

Is that what people find entertaining nowadays?

They're an acquired taste, but they're actually pretty funny at times. A similar stunt had them test security at the Harbour Bridge and a nuclear plant by having an actor pretend to be an american tourist acting suspiciously (but attracting no attention from security personnel), but one of them dressed as a pantomime/stereotypical fake arab immediately received attention from security within minutes.

I don't see what the motivation was.

On a side note, selective bolding FTL.

To see how far they could do it, I assume.

The Chaser - they're like a (self-admittedly) low-rent version of the Onion or the Daily Show, except that they generally pull stunts that get them into trouble or controversy and aren't afraid of harassing people in government (or the opposing party) for whatever decision or political issue is currently making headlines.

    Eh, fine.

I think it's hilarious, on several levels.

In a way, they may have done a public service - they exposed a MAJOR security flaw that could have been exploited by those actually meaning harm.

Security is actually the tightest this country has ever seen. Parts of the CBD are blocked off by (IIRC) a 3 kilometer-long concrete and metal fench/wall, with checkpoints to allow office workers into office buildings in the area.

We only hop in the front seat of a cab in Toronto when there's four of us (or more, depending on the coolness of the cabbie). If I'm getting in a cab late at night, I can guarantee you it's due to a severe case of being shitcanned, and at those times, I want the extra sprawl room.

You need to sit in the front seat in the east end of Hamilton, because that's where the other seat belt is.

Last cab I got the guy went twice the limit and hopped three curbs.

We ride in the front seat in Australia. Or in Queensland, at any rate.

I actually thought this was pretty funny... best bit was the security passes they had shown the police to get by... had the word JOKE printed all over them. How the hell they got past 2 checkpoints, I don't know.

well as a protester mentioned on mornign tv, the police seem more there to keep protestors out more then anything much else.

they didnt spend like $600,000 on a epic water cannon for sh*ts and giggles afterall.
